997 Driver side rear wheel catching on wheel arch.
Discussion
And so onto my second problem!
Over the last couple of months i have noticed a nasty scuffing sound each time i drive over a hump or hit a pothole etc.
On inspection it turns out that the rear driver side tyre is catching on the wheel arch making some nasty markings on the rubbers edge.
Looking straight down the side of the car from the rear end i can notice that the left hand (passenger) side tyre protrudes slightly more than the right hand. Not sure what is going on here and as it's my first 911 i don't know if the car is actually designed and meant to look like that. I don't know anyone else with a 911 so have nothing to compare it to.
One option is to have the arches rolled back although thios may help with the chaffing i would rather get to the root cause of the problem.
Anyone else experienced this?
Not too sure what to do here, any help will be very much appreciated
Regards
Darren

Three possibilities I suppose: geo is miles out, you have the wrong wheel (such as C4 offset) or tyre,, or there is a spacer fitted. The second option may have happened if PO had to replace a wheel and bought the wrong one.
The wheels are the correct sizes they are a set of replica Turbo II's i brought and i crossed checked with the seller to make sure they were the correct size for the car.Not sure about the spacer is it normal practice to put a spacer on one side of the car?

What does the car feel like to drive? If it feels unstable or nervous then it could be either something broken or the geo a mile out. If it feels reasonably ok, then the incorrect wheel size/offset suggestion is likely.
I found a vehicle alignment report dated 24/03/2012 so it's recently been checked out. Is there anything on here that could denote towards a problem? Maybe it's worth contacting the company that did the check?911 Dan said:

A spacer on one side only is a definate no no. Worth checking though to see if one is missing. Not sure about the spacer is it normal practice to put a spacer on one side of the car?
You say the whhels are the correct size, but is the offset also correct?
If the wheels are the wrong offset - ie for wide bodied C4/Turbo - then you will need to replace the rears with the correct ones.
As for spacer, obviously not normal to fit just one, but has PO left one on by accident, having removed others?
My money is on you having bought the wrong wheels.
Sorry

I will check the offset tomorrow, the original boxes are up in the loft and i can't get to them right now.
The replica wheels transferred to the original tyres with out any problems.
I think you will find Dan that the camber bolts are loose on one side. So one wheel has some negative camber and does not rub. The other side has lost its negative camber and may even have gone positive so is rubbing on the wheel arch. Geometry needs checking a.s.a.p.The replica wheels transferred to the original tyres with out any problems.
If you are checking the offset, then I'd not bother with the boxes as you'll have to measure. You should measure the distance from the rear face of the rim (that mates to the hub) to the rear rim of the wheel and to the front rim and see if the wheels are the same or different. [you will have to take them off to do this of course, one at a time]
To check camber you can make a home made camber gauge from a straight bit of wood which you can sit on the rim (without touching the tyre) and hang a bit of string on it to make a plumb line! You need a flat piece of ground. If in doubt measure each side once and then turn the car around parked with the rear wheels in the same place (but car facing the opposite direction). You are looking for differences one side to the other.
