My first proper crash

Well today I earned my pedals so to speak. Lost the front at a roundabout and down I went on my front like a sack of spuds. My chin took a decent knock and my knee was grazed and has a nice lump appearing now. The bike has a few superficial scars to the levers and seat but nothing to bother me.
The car following did skid when stopping so there's diesel or oil on the road and I didn't see the rainbow glistening as I have before. Even when tentatively pulling away the rear wheel spun up with lack of grip, so I was lucky with the small dent to my pride today.
I hope no one has had the same misfortune today as I ahve.

My latest was on the ride like a pro (oooh the irony) event on Saturday.
Lost my little group over a rounabout due to waiting for a car - tried to hard to catch up on the exit and down I went at about 20. Fortunately onto the left - non mech - side of the bike, with the only casualty being suffed break lever and pedal and the left drop is at a funny angle (shifter still works fine thankfully) it just needs heating up and pulling back.
Few cuts and bruises, bruised ribs (much better already) and possible a mild whiplash (once again, much better already). Most annoying thing is the loss of skin on a sq cm patch of the heel of my hand - basically can't do anything without disturbing it.
They happen from time to time. The rapha jersey stood up to the impact very impressively (shade frayed on one panel but that is it)
Glad it is only a dent to the pride and nothing else for you.

I felt the same yesterday, the roads are getting a lot more greasy, I nearly stacked it twice yesterday due to the front giving way: Thir first was turning into a junction too fast (my fault) the second was turning across a main road, the rain had meant all the road chippings had built up in one place, my front wheel turned there and it went, thankfully managed to carry on through
On Monday there were streaks of fuel all along the B road I commute on, complete pisstake people don't take more responsibility

Sounds like you were pretty lucky OP, the roads are certainly starting to get slippery!
Had a similar “off” myself a couple of weeks ago, got caught out in a heavy rain shower and lost the front wheel very suddenly whilst braking for a tight corner, was my first real crash in many years of riding mtb and road in all conditions.
Was either a result of running carbon wheels in the rain - as the brakes can be rather grabby when the rim is wet – see various crashes at the recent worlds for evidence of that, or oil / diesel on the road surface, quite possibly a combination of both.
Like yourself I was only doing about 20mph when I went down which is much, much slower than I would normally take that particular corner.
The drive side hit the ground and bent the rear mech hanger, I shredded my gillet and suffered a fair bit of road rash and scuffs to both myself and the bike, but fortunately nothing too serious. Naturally the first thing when I’d dragged myself off the road stopped seeing stars was make sure nothing carbon had disintegrated – bars, levers, wheels etc.
The damage was primarily to my pride and confidence, the driver of the car that pulled up behind me couldn’t believe that I didn’t want a lift to the hospital, as I was badly winded, plus dripping with both blood and mud – very grateful for them stopping but aside from being embarrassed about falling off, I would have ruined their upholstery!
Even though I’ve pretty much recovered now, I’m still taking it much easier than normal on descents, even on my ally rims and particularly when its wet - confidence takes a while longer to heal than road rash.

You are not wrong there.Off road crash in the dark in the mid 90s cost me two fractured vertebrae (C6/C7) and a fractured sternum. If I hadn't managed to recover myself (40 mins just to get off the ground) I might have died from hypothermia. Now I'm slower than a slow thing and can't 'jump' for owt. Without attending a skills/coaching course I don't see how I'll ever get my youthful exuberance back.
Fast road cornering confidence took a knock within weeks of buying my new bike. I came off turning right at a dodgy crossroads in light rain, due to a combination of oil on the road and naff OE tyres. I later found out (new to the area) that there had been three vehicle accidents there in the preceding fortnight, two of which had resulted in spilled fuel/oil. Cautious is my new middle name.
Had a similar experience yesterday, lost the front end on a road more resembling the Amazon.
No major damage to me or bike (so much water I think I floated more than skidded.) Pride however took a huge knock as was during charity ride with work, just 50 or so people to witness it!
Battled on for another 90 miles to the end, slower than a pensioner down the hills after that though. Ache like hell today!
