Dyno Slammer BMX Project

Hi all,

I love my Boardman MTB but I've recently been thinking about getting a BMX and reliving my youth.

So, I've just bought a '98 Dyno GT Slammer frame and looking for some advice as I've not really kept up to date with the BMX scene. The plan is restore it back to its original spec but how easy will it be to source original parts for this bike, new or used? Would it be better to update any/all parts?

I dont remember slammers having those pacman dropouts, I think its a late 90s gt tour, which is definitely a bonus...

Use bmxmuseum.com, loads of real nerds on there who'll help you out. Old school bmx stuff can be eye wateringly expensive mind..

Thanks Flood, I'm expecting original parts to be expensive but I plan to get this bike spot on and keep it so that's ok. Thanks for that website, it looks like that's the place to look for information and advice.

Get yourself on Radbmx.co.uk

Its mainly UK lads so you wont have to pay tax, duties etc if you find the parts you need. Good community and plenty of pub rides out across the country.

Mid school is starting to get popular now and the prices are creeping up accordingly, this build shouldn't cost the earth though

It was completely the wrong bike for me - it's a ridiculously short ramp bike. I'm 6'3, was just starting - I ended up riding mainly ride street and dirt.

So, unless you plan to ride ramp, or are short, beware - it's got a really, really short top tube.

BTW - somewhere on the web there might exist footage of Mike impaling himself on his handlebar end after failing to land a double turndown. I did have it on a VHS Backyard Jam video. Top effort, and a great bloke to chat to.

RadBMX.co.uk is a great source of info etc, everyone seems friendly and helpful on there. Just signed up and looking forward to gathering more information and parts to get this Dyno back up and running.

Thanks for the heads up regarding sizing DrMekon but I'm planning on this just being a show bike so shouldn't affect me too much. I'm looking to build a team Raleigh Burner to go with it and a cheap runabout BMX to use as a 'daily'

I had a slammer team, sold it to buy my first car. Built up from a brand new frame back in the early 90's I guess, I think someone was advertising it in the back of a mag & I snapped it up. It was a gorgeous bit of kit back then.

Sold it to someone from down Yorkshire Lincolnshire way iirc, met at the little chef on the a66 to do the deal so I could get my nova sr.

Which I of course wrote off
