What Helmet?

I have searche for a topic but couldn't see one sop apologies if this has already been covered.

I am looking for a helmet as I am spending quite a lot of time on the saddle now. i spend most of my time on the road and the rest on some woodland trials but nothing major and I am looking to keep things as budgeted as I can, say sub £50. I have looked but they all seem the same to me. Is there anything taht I should be looking for to protect my bonce or does anyone have any suggestions within budget?

this is what i used for years on road and mtb. perfectly good, looks good, fits on the head well and is cool, light and within budget

Ihave a Giro Feature which was around £50 and I really like it. It doesnt get too hot but the increased protection around the side and back of the head is a bonus. Took a heavy fall at the weekend and I was pleased I was wearing it and not my older Specialised helmet.

+1 on the Giro Feature.

I'm 6'3" and skinny with it and with a very small head - I looked like a cotton bud in anything that wasn't an 'enduro' style helmet.

You do get quite warm in them though - especially in the depths of the woods where the trees prevent the breeze..

It's a bit like recommending saddles - what fits one person perfectly won't necessarily fit another. I'd suggest getting down to your local bike shop and trying a few one.

Running a Specialized Echelon, it's a nice helmet, if you want to stretch the budget a little further I have a Specialized Propero II which again is nice, better vented so summer/racing helmet. The one thing that is nice with Specialized if you crash it, they replace it at a heavily reduced cost which was fantastic, smashed 3 helmets so far this season.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. The Met Crossover looks pretty decent to me and at that price I can put some more in for new lights that I need too. I'll try a few and see what the fit is as I can only see one size for the Met.

Go to a bike shop find a price you are willing to spend and try on helmets round that price, some fit way better than others, I really wanted an Urge Endur o matic went to try one on and found it was hideously uncomfortable as the shape was just plain wrong for my head.

You can look online at pretty helmets as much as you want but it won't mean they will be the best fit for you.

Fit is more important than looking sexy in your helmet. Go to your local shop and do a fashion show with the helmets they have in. Buy the most comfortable one you find.

Agreed. I wanted a Catlike Whisper but the headshape was all wrong.
