997 GT2 @ William Loughran

Howdy Folks,

We have a 991 GT3 on order but delivery is "Q2" 2014 and with the current delays I am thinking it would be back-end Q2 at best. In the meantime I managed to convince the purchase manager (wife) that a 997 GT2 would be fun, and will not suffer massive depreciation if we traded it in against the 991
next year.

Does anyone have any knowledge they can share on the 997 GT2 at William Loughran, either publicly or via a PM?

It seems:

- A total of 5 Owners.
- No Porsche warranty.
- "No record of over rev’s" - I did wonder if this was code for, no check has been made for over rev's.
- Last service was 13/10/2012 at 13,706 Miles.
- Just been to Porsche Centre Bolton for a "check".

Also, anyone with recent experience of buying a car from William Loughran?

I guess a few specific talking points:

Does anyone think that 5 owners on a car with 13,706 miles is a little high? Although that might be *only* one per year.

The lack of Porsche Warranty is unfortunate as I will own the car for three months, attempt to warranty January and then trade-in or sell against the 991 GT3 in May/June.

If buying for a short time. I would try avoid a car with potential headache or to much risk involved.

Why don't you look at the one from Stowe Cars with Porsche warranty?

William Loughran's premises are very local to me - my last house was a 2 minute walk away from them. I have been in there a couple of times and have been dealt with very professionally on each occasion.

They enjoy an exceptional reputation, the vehicles sold are typically presented to the very highest of standards. I have not purchased a car from them (but would happily do so if they had the right car for me at the right time) and friends/colleagues have used them. To be honest, I've not heard a bad word said against them.

Aha yes, it looked nice. The wife complained bitterly about the decals on the side. Zzz... I know I know..

Good choice, amazing cars and a real bargain given the rarity and how special they are.


I went to test drive a V10 R8 today as a potential replacement, wasn't even in the same league, really struggling to think of the next car after this



As for buying, if you want one that will be easy to sell on again quickly watch out for cleared over-revs, reset mileage and damage, I've heard of several bad examples floating around.

I was going to say that, make sure you can get the 991 deposit back if you get a 997 GT2

What would you rather have , a car with two owners that's not been looked after and you now have to puck up the pieces (I've had one) or a car with lots of owners thats in fine shape as it has a full history and lists of reciepts?

I never bought off him but tested a gt3 he had a few years back and a couple of other motors.Could not fault the stock he had ,all the cars had obviously been well looked after by previous owners ,so I would have no concerns buying from him.

Limited availability of good cars is the issue with all GT2's.

No warranty could be a problem for some buyers or the cost to get one and any remedial work and then when you sell it's another owner so then on 6.

The Stowe car has been for sale a while, much smaller audience for a GT2 than a GT3 so may also take you some time to sell when the GT3 build slot comes up.

Do you REALLY want a GT2, have to say they are a great car but not to everyone's taste.

Take a test drive, then go from there but I believe circa 60 uk cars registered in 997 type and less than 100 996 variants left.

Haha, good point! I did some research on the 4 997 GT2s for sale. White is the preferred color. The Stowe car looks great but it looks to have the PCM 2.5, not the 3.0 of thw Williams car. Hmm, decisions decisions.

You'll take a bath for buying the GT2 from a trader and then trading it in for the GT3 of course

Thanks! We were thinking of requesting a 111 check before purchasing, we would cover the costs of the check. Hopefully that would pick-up any of the issues you mentioned?

Really good points, the main use is Euro touring and Sunday blast. Very occasionally a lap or two of the Ring on tour but always early in the day and then after that I switched to local rental track prepared car. I never drove the 997 GT2, I do love the thought of ownership, maybe for a limited period, or maybe for the foreseeable future.
