thinking about replacing my spare road bike with a cx?

As per title really.

I've got a carrera tdf - but after fixing my Boardman pro carbon I really don't want to ride the damn thing.
I also can't really leave the Boardman chained up in town.. (The paranoia level is just too high)

Am I experiencing shiny toy syndrome or does a decent CX make sense as a second / winter bike?
I was thinking something with a SRAM group set to keep parts commonality with the pro carbon, discs and perhaps a spare pair of wheels so I can run knobblies for light off road and slicks for canal / everywhere else.

Is it worth it? I'm up to 3 bikes atm so the tdf will go lol (currently carrera Vulcan hardtail MTB, carrera tdf roadie, Boardman pro carbon roadie)

I would be tempted by a secondhand Boardman CX but can't seem to find any (and tbh the new ones don't appeal purely on colour scheme and group set choice)

I'd just put the TDF to winter/town duties, seems the perfect bike for it.

That's what I intended to do originally but tbh after riding my other bike its like driving a hot hatch after a lotus. Feels more like punishment than pleasure....(and I used to love it)

I love riding an older / worse bike than my "best" as it makes me appreciate the decent bike when out on it.

Also if the older bike is heavier then it gets you fitter and I love not having to worry about it breaking/keeping in top notch condition.

I used to do my 20 mile daily on a 15 yr old Kona MTB, it was heavy but it made me fitter, plus when I took/rode my roadie I appreciated and exploited it a lot more.

This. Use the TDF as a winter bike.
