Yeah, in all probability I would die in a horrible, fiery ball of death, but how cool is that!?!?

That is one nice looking chopper. Shame I don't know how to fly one otherwise I would have put a deposit down today
It's actually pretty hard. Never flew a real helicopter but I flew a full size simulator and crashed it more than once.Bloody brilliant

why not get something thats actually IN production, and available in kit for form for less than £22k + delivery
I give you... the Mosquito

Do non "full size" simulators exist? Are they for small people or do they not offer a full experience - like you can fly but not crash or land, or both at the same time?
Good mate of mine who flies helicopters for the Navy )(never understood that, I thought the Navy was a ship thing!) told me what you have to do to fly one:
Both feet have a pedal to control.
One hand controls a stick between your legs that is like a joy stick, ie. 360 degree movement.
Other hand controls a stick that goes up and down.....and has a twist thing on the end, like a motorcycle throttle.
Then you have to watch the instruments, press buttons when needed and talk to people on the radio.
He seemed surprised that I refused a passenger ride!

Left hand lever controls the angle of the rotor blades (up increases the angle for lift, down decreases for less lift) so you go up/down
Twist grip on the same lever controls the disc speed/revs
Pedals control the rudder to rotate left/right
Right hand (cyclic) controls the angle of the rotor disc forward is forward, back wards is backward, left or right side slips left or right...
Radio controls are on the stick in your right hand and are different shapes so you can tell what they do with out looking.
That's how I under stand the basic theory any way

Conceivably the engine is in the black box at the top, even if it is though you are not going to get very far due to the distinct lack of anything remotely resembling a fuel tank
.....not to mention the tail rotor being within the actual rotor disk and thus virtually useless.SlipStream77 said:
I'm not really into helicopters but from what I've read about them, if I was in the market for one, I'd have a Gazelle.
For no reason other than they gave robust service under fire in the Falklands and appear to be the helicopter equivalent of a landrover and therefore maintainable with a hammer, I'd have a SaRo/Westland Scout.SlipStream77 said:

Being an Aerospatiale creation they share a lot of parts with Renault cars.We used to have a Gaz on the Sqn in amongst all the big stuff and local sourcing of spares during service often meant a trip to Halfords.
If you want a flying Land Rover, what you need is a Westland Scout.
