New Boardman CX Comp - anyone bought one yet?

I'm seriously tempted to get one of these on the next 10% off weekend as it ends up under £500 after the BC discount. The frame looks well finished, it has Sora bits and Mavic rims (albeit on unbranded hubs) and reasonable tyres too. I was looking at the 2014 Genesis CDF but this has a very similar spec for £300 less, the main difference being ally vs steel frame.
It's a shame the Boardman doesn't have a carbon fork but at that price something has to give on the spec list.

Most carbon forks on bikes under £1k are carbon blades on an alloy steerer, its better than an alloy fork but not a great deal lighter and still a compromise. Quality bar tape and gloves will help absorb the road buzz if thats an issue.
But not all. The Hoy, Boardman and PX are all full carbon forks. FWIW I was reading on Bikeradar that they're having quality problems with the CX Team frames, not sure if CX Comp is also affected...

I thought it was the shiny gunmetal finish - regardless of model. So the sport fi and both cxers at least...FWIW I was reading on Bikeradar that they're having quality problems with the CX Team frames, not sure if CX Comp is also affected...

Not sure whether that looks like a paint flaw (disappointing) or a frame problem (worrying).
Ironically I'd prefer it to be a frame problem: because then if it cracks properly you can return it to Halfords, claim a refund, no trouble. But if it's paint, once you've accepted it you're going to have a not-quite-perfect bike, IYSWIM.
I've also noticed that the Team has Apex shifters but a Microshift rear mech rather than Apex... does that make a difference?
Well, I emailed Boardman, and got a nice reply from a chap called Jamie within 4 minutes! 
It turns out that there will be a 2014 CX Pro, but they're not launching the 2014 Elite range until November 7th. If anyone is thinking of spending in the region of £1,500 on a CX bike, I'd definitely recommend waiting until then to see what Boardman put out!

I was looking at a CX team today in my local Halfords. No sign of any paint problems around the 'problem' area. Is it just me, or are there too many stickers etc on these bikes? It would look a lot better with minimal badging, but there must be 50 stickers describing the material & other nonsense. Cant even peel them off as lacquered over!

I have to agree, if it wasn't for the giant red or blue areas I'd have had one.... But of thread ressuraction, but the more I think of it the more I'm convincing myself my life isn't complete without a CX.
As the 2014 team has been recalled, and I didn't likethe colour scheme anyway... I've tracked down a few in my size in stock at £810.
Did I mention my birthday is coming up? :-)
Same spec but seems to lack the extra brake levers (cheap to add). Bonus I don't hate the colour scheme.
Alternatively there's the pro, in a very nice classic black - but its twice the price and doesn't seem to offer much spec increase (apex - force, bb5 - bb7 brakes, fizik saddle, similar otherwise and about the same weight).
I don't need one, I've got a road bike, a spare road bike and an MTB but still....

Neither did I. I had a road bike and an MTB when I purchased my CX bike......and now I just have a CX bike I had a quick look at the Boardman CXs in Halfords this morning. They are nice looking bikes but I agree on the graphics - They seem to be going a bit Cube like. That alloy colour does look really good in the flesh though.

Thursday MTB club runs it wouldn't cut it, need the MTB for that.
Sunday club runs and events it won't replace my pro-carbon
Spare roadie gets used for damn near everything else (or when the weather is s
te). I can leave it anywhere, don't care about damaging it, cost me peanuts. I have a tendency to break my MTB and my pro-carbon throws a strop on a regular basis so that's my default runabout!Ironically I wanted a cheap lightly used one I would have a similar attitude to, but they are like rocking horse poo (let alone in small).
If only they did a black one.... (Apart from the pro ofc)
Just ordered one of the 2012-2013 models. My Halfords are finding someone with stock to send one over.
I had last years model and this years side by side and the new one is heavier - I'm also really not a fan of the colour scheme. Spec is identical apart from the of bb30 on the new one and a regular bb30 on the old.
Should work out very cheap however, 810 current online price, 10% off weekend coming up, 10% British cycling discount, plus whatever the store can do on last years model.

Tempted to do similar. What size are you ordering? Those are the only ones showing online. There's a couple of smalls (the size I want) one or two might not be ex-display (although the Aylesbury store has a large they offered me for £750 which is fitted with 105 crankset, again ex display). Stores can check stock levels on the internal system.It is possible to get them shipped to another store but I get the impression its not normal practice and an epic pain in the ass for everyone concerned.

It very much depends on the store - the Halfords near me couldn't do enough to source me a Boardman 29er from elsewhere in the store network. If you're own local isn't playing ball it's worth calling round other branches.Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
