Exhaust Replacement in 1989 3.2 Carrera

I am thinking of replacing the standard exhaust in my 1989 3.2 Carrera. I would like to get something that has a little more noise but nothing too loud or droning. A friend has a Fab Speed exhaust on his 993 and the sound is good but a little loud for my liking.

I would want to retain the original look with single outlet on left hand side of the car.

Any suggestions?

if its just a nice noise you're after, try getting a spare airbox cover and putting a big hole in it.

the change in induction noise is rather good.

if you want to see what its like, remove your existing filter cover and parcel tape the filter in place, and take it for a spin. the noise on wide open throttle is great, but it sounds stock on partial throttle so you have some choice.

if you want to modify a cover, you just need to keep the frame part and keep some of the top part in place to keep any direct rain water out.

As there is actually nothing wrong with the current system I am really just looking for a noise improvement. Thanks for the suggestions guys, will have a look at these options.

Isn't that just a bit too much like pegging cards to your push bike so that it sounds like a motorbike?

It is almost the exact automotive equivalent of putting cards in the spokes of your wheels,
and no less fun, though I understand it is not an approach to be taken too seriously - there is certainly no power gain.

Its totally reversible in 2 minutes, so nothing to loose really - I still have my stock undamaged air filter cover, I just got another one from the friendly bunch at impactbumpers.com.

I wasn't sure I'd leave it on, but after several months now I think I will leave it on permanently(I use my 85 3.2 everyday to commute). If you don't want loud, just avoid full open throttle, and it sounds stock, which is quite handy.

I would recommend a Dansk sports silencer and pre silencer.
