Turbo Trainer Maintenance

I recently thought I'd get hold of a Turbo to see if I can do some training during the dark and cold months.

I didn't want to splash out on something decent as I'm not sure how much use it will get. I ended up buying a second hand Elite Mag Alu from eBay for grand sum of £20 as it seemed to fit the bill.

It looks alright for £20, but its a bit noisy and the roller doesnt turn really smoothly. I've started stripping to down to replace and grease the bearings, but it seems a little tougher than I'd expected. Aren't they designed to be replaced? Anyone else have any tips on maintenance/turbos in general?

I too have done the same as you. One thing I found is to fiddle with the adjuster on the roller which raises and lowers it. If it is to high the wheel is a real struggle to turn.
