Looking for investment ideas for 60 year old (still working 4 day week) widow that has around £200k to invest. She is pretty risk adverse and has two daughters that she would like any investments to be split 50/50 should the worst happen. She has invested this money for the last five years and it has made around £50k from £150k invested which seems pretty good to me but looking for other ideas..

Any suggestions? Or further questions?

Is that £50k tax-free? If so then she's doing pretty well - between 5 & 7% p.a. Carry on! Some IHT planning will be needed at some point if she's got any other assets.

For me, this is a no-brainer.

Purchase a property.

For example, round here £200k will get you a 2, maybe 3 bed house, or lovely flat. Anywhere that is prime London commuter belt will let very quickly too, with minimal voids, if at all.

Which could be let for getting on for a grand a month.

I reckon a £12k pa income is good going for a £200k investment, no? And if you buy the right property, there is as near as dammit zero risk to the capital.

Gift £23,040 to her daughter's for the current tax year as a start.

Would also look at IHT as there could perhaps be an issue in the coming years as per above.
