Paul at 1st Class Alloys at Lichfield....a straight talking perfectionist! He has done a number of wheels for me & the added benefit is that his unit is next to the railway station thumbup

The Wheel Specialist (aka Laptab) by spaghetti junction - they fully strip the wheel back before powder coating/painting - not just a quick spray over the face of the wheel.

Hark, I forgot to say that my recommendation above does full strip down/powder coating as well as split rim wheels - the level of OCD even goes to repainting the wheel bolts and also colour coding the wheel weights. I think whatever you do, have first hand experience of who you decide to use (from a friend etc) and see the work/durability rather than just a few sample wheels in the showroom. A good refinisher will guarantee their work as long as you don't use wheel cleaning products on them smile

Cheers for the recommendations guys. Car will be off the road for winter this month I reckon, so gives me plenty of time to refurb and source new tyres.

Hark, depending on who you decide to use, see if the company have any good rates available for tyres? - I would also suggest that you get the refinisher to fit your new tyres for you and a good company will also check before they start working on them whether they have any slight 'buckling'

Hi Matt..... I'd always used Lap Tab (as mentioned above) in the past, but the finish on my last set of wheels cracked badly. After some research I found Colour Correction on Astwood Bank (so nice & local), who have a good reputation. I've only had one wheel done there so far, but the results have been very good and they're a LOT friendlier than Lap Tab too. Here's their website: http://www.colourcorrection.co.uk/

I'm having mine done at JP Alloys in Cannock, got diamond cut 20" wheels on the Insignia VXR. It's costing £350 for all the wheels to be refurbed, a couple are quite badly damaged and the rest are kerbed.

Cheers folks. Hadn't thought of getting them to source tyres, not a bad idea. Want some AD08s or R1Rs. Current rears are 245 but been told they'll catch so looking at coming down to 235. Still alot wider front and rear than standard.

Just had mine done by Exel Wheels - they come to you and take your wheels away.
Brilliant service and an even better finish.

Can also supply and fit tyres.

I've just had two sets of wheels stripped, blast cleaned and powder coated by Sweeney & Sherlock in Birmingham. Both sets (1 VW, 1 Mercedes) were Ebay purchases to take winter tyres - they were too rough to use as they came, but I didn't want to spend big money given their intended use.

I picked them up on Monday and am completely blown away by the standard of finish (I had them done in bright silver). They are quite literally as good as new. The intention was to put the set currently on the VW into a "proper" wheel specialist while the winter set are on, but having seen their work, I do question what else I would be getting for more money.

So this isn't a slight on Mark as he's a good chap, but went to Colour Correction, Astwood bank and they are a complete waste of space.

Phoned a month ago, agreed a price but said I needed to source tyres. Took a while to do this, but finally sorted it last week. Phoned this Monday and said I'd drop them down Thursday to be done for the weekend or early next week. Went down today, spoke to the powdercoating guy and was told that he couldn't be arsed, and didn't want the job. Waste of f**king space.

Hark, the response you got isn't acceptable though there are plenty others to choose from & I'm sure you will get treated properly by whoever does your wheels. Good luck with whoever you choose.

To save any chance of having a duff job done, or anymore bad service, give Chris at Exel a call.
