PCM Nav vs phone app and standard PCM

The PCM Nav that comes in the 991... is it any good?

My experiences of factory Sat Nav have been less than favourable in the past and Im wondering if this is going to be any different.

Questions for those that have it...

1. Does it support full 7 character Postcodes?
2. Can you 'choose a route' easily? - I like to plan routes via the twisties and will often take an indirect route to get from a-b. Can you do this in the PCM Nav in a straight forward way?
3. How current is it? Has anyone tried to go somewhere that the satnav doesn't know about?

Looking at the options list, and reading the standard spec Im a little bit confused.

The standard set up comes with an Aux in, but it doesnt have a USB port, is that correct?
What does CDR plus give you? (the configurator just shows a picture)

So is it 'better' to go for the standard PCM, or maybe the soundpackage plus and stick to an external/phone SatNav ?

I can think of lots of better ways to spend £2K than on something that may drive me nuts.

Also can anyone clarify that the "Mobile Phone Prep" option is stand alone Bluetooth and doesnt need PCM or anything else? - you can select it on its own in the configurator

I'm no expert, but I believe that PCM (with nav) is standard on all 991 models (maybe excl GT3). The mobile phone prep is fine but the telephone module option gives extra functionality. I expect someone else will be able to clarify.

Sound package plus is also standard on 991 Carrera/Carrera S, with the option to upgrade to Bose or Burmeister.

Hello, I can't answer all the questions you ask but I can answer some. My car was pre-configured so it came as is, but I have most the options you are asking about.

Firstly is PCM any good on the 991? Yes, it is excellent. I have had many cars with SatNav and this Porsche system is by far the best. It has traffic and can be configured to offer you 3 alternative routes each time you use it. the touch c=screen works really well and the link between the multifunction display (in the middle of the speedometer and tachometer) and the PCM display is really good.

Yes it uses 7 figure post codes.
I would say yes, you can add legs to routes so that would make it easier to plan a twisty trip.
Not sure how up to date it is but it works as well as any SatNav I have used. (But I have only just done 1000miles, so not a conclusive answer).

I think it does have USB (in the gloves box)as std, but I might be wrong. I use Bluetooth Streaming with my iPhone and I find that works really well. I think you would only need USB to charge a phone?

I have the Bose speakers and they are very good, one of the best Bose setups I have used. I have Bose in my 997 and Boxster, the 991 system is much better.
