Hi,
I have been looking for a new car to buy early next year. Currently have an Alfa spider and want something faster, cooler and has a bit more prestige. Have got down to a TVR Tuscan or T350, or a early 1990s Ferrari 348.
Is the ferrari very hard to drive as I hear it has no power stearing. Also a bit concerned about no air bags, no electric roof on the spider, low and hits all curbs/speed bumps etc. I don't want to get it and find it is very unluxurious compared to todays new cars.
I am also a bit concerned over being stopped by jealous police, or having it keyed/vandalised if left in quite back streets!!
I know this all sounds fussy but I really want to make the right decision.
I can't find much info on the car on the web so any sites to suggest (want to know apx mpg)?
Any help greatfully received.
Thanks.

I wouldn't leave it on the street on a permanent basis, but parking for a few hours should be ok. I think if you start worrying every time you leave it somewhere you won't enjoy the car. I never had any problems with mine.
Steering isn't at all heavy on the move, and not too bad when stopped.
Luxury wise, it's all leather inside and very good quality at that, mine still looked fantastic and that was an 11 year old car.

Bollox I say - they're for driving!

Had my 348 Spider 6 weeks now - last owner did 2000 miles in the last year - I had it 3 weeks and had done 3500 miles hammering it across France, Germany and up and down the Swiss and Italian Alps. Managed the boil the brake fluid and seize the aircon pump (lack of use) oh, and get it very VERY dirty.

All in all damn good fun

About right on urban driving - on a steady (?) motorway run you should get mid 20s.

I also have a '97 TVR Griffith 500 and was originally thinking of changing to a Tuscan S - I am so glad that I went for the Ferrari. They are simply in a different league. The quality of workmanship and attention to detail is superb. The handling is phenomenal and the syling, hell, what can you say. I dreamt of getting a TVR for 15 years... but only because I never ever thought I would actually own a Ferrari. Don't worry about the 348 not having an electric roof, neither does the Tuscan and the Italian's is a lot easier to put up and down. Lack of power steering not a problem - the first time I drove it home I actually thought it had it the steering is that responsive.

Find a good one and you won't regret it.

I have a 348 Spider and they are the best of the 348 models, the last ones with 355 set-up. They were used to develop the 355 spider.

On a steady motorway run 70/80 mph I get 30 miles to the gallon. But most of the time around 25 MPG the way I drive it and even less around town.

When you buy a car like this you do not ask questions about the MPG at all.

Like any Italian car, if you dont drive them regulary then the problems will start.

Ferraris need to be driven hard (revved high to their limit) only after the oil has been warmed up good.

I have had my car three years with no problems at all.
Its due for full service with belts now which will cost about £2000 all in.

The big service is every 3 years or 30,000 miles. Not bad...

Buy the latest ferrari model you can afford.

You will not regret about buyimg one.... Everyone should own a ferrari.....

this all sounds great but just to mix it up a bit i have just sold a black tuscan s it was supurb i had it over 2 years no problems at all !

last summer i drove it to monte` it got a lot of attention !

performance wise it will walk all over the older rari`s mind blowing

however i have just sold the tiv and brought a masser (because i needed to get a bady seat in) mine has the 4200 rari engine and it sounds great

it is undoughtly better built than the tiv but i notice the difference in grunt

ask the average spotty teenager tiv or rari? 9 out of ten will say rari

if you go for the tiv make sure you buy the s its much better and make sure it 2002 02 or newer

tough choice good luck
