Anyone know if the southbound A249 camera just after the twisty bit down Detling Hill is active and issuing PCNs?

I would imagine both of those cameras, North and South, are active.

Latest figures released for speed cameras in the area confirms it works.

Scamera van still has a habit of sitting in the lay by just around the bend after the camera (going out of Maidstone) so strongly advise not just slowing for the camera.

From memory the 50mph and the cameras were temporary until the bridge was built. How old is the bridge now??

That bridge was installed after some people died crossing the road. Temporary Cameras where installed and the speed limit reduced till the bridge was completed.(both are still there) In the hundreds of times I've passed that point over the years at different times of the day I've never seen people cross the bridge, but i have seen kids nearly run over running across the road.

To be fair I have used the bridge a few times when I cycle along Pilgrims Way. That's how I remember it, funny how both are still there.....

The death of Jade Hobbs and her grandmother finally galvanised the local community and the council into action. As with everything, time is a healer, so people become complacent about the danger. At least they have the choice of safely crossing the bridge, or running the gauntlet.

I always thought a pedestrian crossing with lights would have made more sense and probably cheaper but I guess a bridge suits the horse riders better.

Uhhh a pedestrian crossing on a dual carriage way. That'd be unusual.

Not really. There are plenty of examples.

Probably not with the same obstructed view, Maidstone bound though.

Its unusual for a dual carriage way where it is national speed limit or a 50. The bridge it's the far safer crossing option rather than relying on vehicles travelling in excess of 50 mph seeing the red light at the crossing and stopping in adequate time. Especially in this instance where half of the road is decesnding a steep slope through an S bend.

It also occasionally sits just over the brow of the hill, just before the limit changes to NSL.

Sneakiest trap I've seen across most of UK...just what Cletus and Roskoe used to do on Dukes of Hazzard in the eighties!

The sad individual that parks his scamera van here and down behind the large bush by The Three Squirrels has some serious personality issues....unless he's just dogging I guess?!

West Malling bypass is a good one.

Fast road strangled by 50mph limit that only 50% of people stick to.

There's quite often a mobile one on there.
