I am thinking of buying one of these, or am I ...?

Not a second hand one though (I have seen Sony's Terms and Conditions). Dire is the word closest to what I can repeat on here.

Anyone got any experience/opinion of an AIBO (good or bad)...?

Rupert is a dog person, I am a cat person and we both love toys, also we can't have pets (we rent) so an AIBO would be perfect.

They're mental. Built-in camera, lies down/rolls over, fetches your slippers and everything, i heard. I'd just love one, and i'd train it to stick its head out of the car window, too.

-and at what cost?.....pile of tat if you ask me, Sony's way of extracting money from parents of spoilt brats.

How about giving the money to an animal rescue charity?

I am a member of the Redwings horse charity. My 2 cats came from the RSPCA and are fed fresh prawns every day (Dont ask, if you know my Dad you will understand).

Roop has 2 dogs and sometimes I get the feeling he would rather have them, and a whole load more, than me.

Ok, fair enough, but I still don't see how anybody over the age of 8 could be enchanted by a couple of micro-controllers and servos made to look like a cat or whatever the Aibo is.

Truth is, most blokes would rather have the dog in the house and a woman on a chain in the doghouse.. less earache..

It vibrates, apparently. That camcorder feature would make pleasant viewing. Mmm...

It has flashing lights as well. Anything electronic/gadgety I love, Roop brings out the worst in me or should that be the expensive side...?

I am easily pleased.

What i find fascinating is the fact that these are robots, and near the current state of the art. Okay, it's not going to need teaching Aasimov's 3 principles just yet, but it's not Bigtrak either, and i want one, so there

I like them they're expensive but fun. One big problem I see though is they don't get out of the way. A dog or cat will see your huge feet abount to stomp on them as you come from the kitchen AIBO will end up as a rather expensive electronics hobby.

I know your Dad, but I still don't understand. Next time I'm in the Bristol Avenue area of Blackpool, I'll have to ask him what it means... assuming, that is, I can stop him talking about that patio heater

Thats what I meant...the patio heater.
As it was getting too expensive Mum made him take it back. LOL

So now he has a bog standard heater for the cats as well as the tents to keep them warm
