Canyon road bikes

Looking to buy a new bike for 2014 and the Canyon CF SL stands out. Great spec, supposedly great frame and less than 7kg. The mode below is under 2 grand. Any viable alternatives that I'm missing around this price point?

Current bike is a Specialised Allez, so looking for something with reasonably racey geometry, although I'll only be using it on long hilly rides and sportives, no racing.

Just make sure you are sure of the sizing although they do offer a 30 day exchange policy. Have you looked at some of the clearance deals on their website? I have an Aeroad 9.0 and am very happy with it, if they sold legs I would get a pair of those as well.

My brother in law has had one 18 months or so now and hasn't had any problems at all. Rates it extremely highly.

Would be interested to know what your warranty issue was (PM if prefferred). I have/had a Canyon Aeroad. Don't think I'd buy one again though which is a shame since they are amazing value.

Would be interested to know what your warranty issue was (PM if prefferred). I have/had a Canyon Aeroad. Don't think I'd buy one again though which is a shame since they are amazing value.

It actually wasnt the frame but a component which failed taking out 2 other bits
Canyon offered a flat £20 for labour from my LBS to strip the bike and rebuild on strict production of a receipt
They absolutely wouldnt pay for the other bits which needed replacing

None of my LBS's would touch the job at that price so I DIY'd and sucked up the cost of the other parts

Had I have spent 3k at the LBS I would have dropped it with them to be fixed without quibble and would also politely have asked for a snotter to ride whilst mine was off the road, as it was I was without my best bike for most of last summer

That would be my worry with buying an expensive bike with the same business model as Canyon , not knocking them as the bikes look great, but I would want decent warranty support on bikes 1k+

The Boardman slr 9.0 is 600 notes cheaper at Wiggle. Again, 'only' 10-speed.

There's more to it than just carbon though - It's not just a function of frame material and group set. Planet x do look to be very good value, but some of the the things that matter to me - wheels, tyres etc look a bit low rent. I know it's easy to upgrade but it does make me wonder if there are compromises elsewhere that you can't easily see.

In fairness, I've only heard good stuff about them, as I have about boardman, but it's it generally from people are are relatively new to cycling, so I'm not sure its compared against much.

The canyon looks very impressive, but that's because I'm considering one too

Nothing wrong with Planet X at all. I suspect the vast majority of top-end UK riders have spent time on one, and that more UK races are won on Planet Xs than many of the bigger brands combined.
