Hello & HELP with Tuscan Respray

Hi All.

Not exactly new here, but don't post very much (read loads). The story so far

I have owned my Mk2 Tuscan 'S' for about 6 years now and obviously I absolutely love it. I've had my problems but always been well looked after firstly by the guys at Racetech and lately by STR8six

Recently my stepsons neighbour backed into my Tuscan when parked and after the initial look revealed the faintest of scratches I said don't worry about it as I was going to get it resprayed after a planned tour of Europe next year. But on cleaning it the following day I noticed there where chips on the underside of the rear spoiler so went back to the guy concerned and his insurance company immediately accepted full liability. So having asked Mark (Racetech)who to use (no names at the moment) I booked the car in and during discussions it was thought that it would be impossible to match the paint perfectly so a full respray would be required which was duly done.... and now my problem starts.... The original colour is Spectraflair Silver ie base silver with purple and gold flip, the car has come back and in anything other than good sunlight or artificial light looks flat silver, the flip is there it is just very subtle/not noticeable...Now to be fair to the garage they are taking it back MONDAY to redo the job.. Now I have a couple of other issues with the original works done, the main one being that they didn't remove the lights when they done the original respray and fortunately as it happens they didn't do the bit behind the front reg plate, which clearly shows the difference colours.

My question is would it be reasonable to expect a respray to include removing and refitting the lights and how do I insure I get the right colour as per original spec.....is it a particular paint that needs to be bought (he said that he had wasted a £1000 of paint having to respray again, would that be right) and how many coats of what need to be applied, can I expect it to come back as per original. I just feel that a bad spray job will devalue the car as well as monumentally p**s me off

Good thing you have highlighted it and rejected the job. A good bodyshop worth there salt will remove parts if needed. and headlight pods on a tuscan are best removed as masking can be awkwad and as you have seen, leaves a section either poorly or unpainted.
All you can do is to wait for the job to be completed again, if its not right, reject it. Keep in contact with your insurer and notify them of the poor repair, it should come back in original condition, not a poor imitation.

Reason the flip doesn't work is he only bought cheap paint. More like £1000 per litre and you would need 3 of them..

I'd suggest speaking to the guys at Surface & Design. They get a lot of good press on here and know everything there is to know about spectraflair paint. I have seen stories of it being c£500 per litre to get the right factory finish

As this is an insurance claim there should be no issue whatsoever making sure the correct mix of paint is used and the correct amount is supplied. Getting a decent sprayer to put it on your car correctly however is a whole different ball game.................

Isn't there the spectraflair lite option which is much cheaper or is that just atop coat?

I though real spectraflair silver paint is near £700 a litre (ex vat) so £840 (inc) * 4 litres for a full respray = £3,360 just for the paint.
