New owner... Rookie error!

Evening all,

While recently looking for a new "sensible" daily driver I found myself buying an s1! Needless to say the current daily driver now won't be retired anytime soon! I've spent a silly amount of time browsing this forum (outstanding amount of info, cheers) over the last few weeks and got stuck into fixing and finding problems last weekend... This has left me a few questions I'm hoping someone can help with:

- I've identified the auxiliary air valve as faulty (permanently almost closed affecting idle) but am struggling find a supplier online. Any suggestions or recommendations? Even a bosch part number would help.

- secondly, and quite embarrassingly, while I had the steering column removed at the weekend I disconnected the cable on the boot catch to help with Re - assembly. I realised about a second after closing the boot lid later that I hadn't reattached it! So I'm stuck with a shut boot and no cable attached to the catch! Aaaarrrrgh! Any suggestions or experience would be appreciated.

Can't help otherwise, no experience on the 2.8 engine.

Might be worth asking on the Wedge Forum, probably more 2.8 engined cars over there?

Or have a mooch around some Ford / Capri / Sierra / Granada forums ?

Or Google Classic Ford Spares?

The aux air valves can usually be cleaned up if they are sticking. Leave it to soak in some penetrating oil overnight and get a small brush inside to help.
Also check the connections are not corroded and that the heating coil is ok (ISTR around 26 ohms)

Excellent, thanks, especially the boot tip. I've ordered up a s/h valve from www.tickover.co.uk, so no problem if the cleaning /soaking doesn't do the trick.

Greetings + welcome to the pain/pleasure that is TVR s owning. If you haven't got the boot open yet, I had the cable snap on mine with the boot shut- managed to get access through taking out the rear speakers in the bulkhead which allowed a long-armed person to push the catch against the spring thus releasing the catch.

Most S's don't have rear speakers. There's a much easier way.

No, this was for S1 & S2. S3 onwards is quite different.
