Hello

I've just secured a new job where my wage goes from 12K to 18K.

As the hours of the new job are in the evening, my current company have asked me to do some part time work for them during the day.

How would take work for this? I'll be doing 3 hours @ £10 per hour at my current place which is £7200 a year. I know I will get 2 tax bands, but will I get taxed for a total of £25,200

Or would I get taxed 18K and then separately taxed for the £7200 (which is £0!)?

Either way I'll be taking a huge wage increase but I'd like to know for sure how much.

Cheers

Tax is paid on all income above your tax allowance.

The probability is that your main income will receive your tax allowance - if not contact HMRC. Your first income is well above the tax allowance anyway. Your part time job will probably have no tax allowance on so you will pay tax on all of your second income.

Your secondary part-time job will be taxed at basic rate -thats 20% deduction and you will also suffer 12% Class 1 Employees NIC if you earn greater than £149 in any week.
