Trying work out why my fuel pump refuses to prime or run before I can investigate why car still refuses to fire. All parts (relay/fuse/pump)checked good but on turning ignition, no power is provided to yellow relay. Can anyone tell me what the voltage should be between the ECU pins 22 and 37 when ignition is turned on but not engaging starter motor? Having traced the wiring diagram in Steve H's bible, the wires are Red/Blue and Black respectively.

Second question, if I find someone willing to loan an ECU to diagnose further faults, will it need re-programming or could it suffer unintended damage?
Thanks in anticipation (and frustration seeing the summer slipping away and not being able to scuff some rubber).

Mark,

There are plenty of ECU testing places around the UK and I bet you can find one in Soton if necessary. However if not when you start working a few desks from me I could take it to the one in Plymouth if needed - they charge £35 I think and if it is faulty this comes off the repair bill. However if you are getting no power to the relay I suspect this is more likely to be a wire break somewhere in the loom as the ECUs are meant to be close to bullet proof.

Have you got an immobiliser as cutting this power supply is one of the things mine does?

The saga continues. Thanks to Phillpot's spare ECU, I have ruled out ECU snags. Next on to the immobiliser which although every output from it seems to be functioning, it really can be the only other source of the trouble.

Frustratingly both Motronics (fitter) and Foxguard (manufacturer) have gone to the wall so getting hold of wiring diagrams to purge the loom of what looks like the Borgue assimilation has been impossible.

MEP - will drop your spares back when in the HQ if you can still wait for them. Thanks for their loan too, some used, some not.

Mark, have you tried a jumper wire in place of the relay to power the pump constantly and see if the car will run?
If it's immobiliser related, you'll likely have no spark either.

Hurrah White S3 is back making noise and starting on demand!!! Turned out to be the sodding black wire that is attached to the throttle cage which is bolted to the plenum - this is actually an earth from pin 60 on the ECU that starts off brown and turns to black somewhere in the loom. Now the wire if firmly fixed to the plenum and not the throttle cage.
Now for the sunshine.

Injector issue, fuel relay, fuel injector relay all linked in!

Thanks all for the suggestions, loan of bits and moral support.

the sodding black wire
Often wondered what that was for and is it really necessary......guess we know the answer now wink
