When mine did this it was the slave cylinder, not the master. Did it myself and it took about 2 hours.

I think it cost about £50 for the new slave.

hi sunbeam - can we discuss pedal symptoms?

sometimes works fine and others it stays on floor with clutch still engaged - it can be encouraged to play by lifting pedal back up - which kinda suggests the Master? - talk me into believing it could be the slave as it would seem a lot cheaper - I would have to rely on an Indi in Northants
cheers

My symptoms were exactly the same. I could pull the pedal up by hooking my toe under it.

Has the car been parked up unused for a while?

You will be losing fluid, and will eventually have no clutch. frown

where is fluid reservoir? - mot reported fluid leak unknown source so could well be near empty and i need to collect car and drive it a bit before committing to a repair - somebody suggested changing just the seal slave / master - i am trying to maintain / improve on strict budget as this is a cheap car!
i imagine difficult to ascertain if master or slave unless leaking into footwell?

Brake and clutch share the same fluid reservoir. There is a dividing wall - the clutch reservoir is the back part nearest the bulkhead.

The slave is under the airbox and very easy to get at. The only thing you need to watch out for is that the end of the new slave matches the "arm" that works the clutch - it's maybe easier to order them both together. (I didn't and ended up swapping the arm a week later as the arm kept slipping out).

many thanks will look at tomorrow after getting car this eve

can you reccommend a soulful rear silencer thats not too loud, popular enough to get on used market or cheap enough to buy on a budget? - engine is sooo quiet and character which must be there cant be heard!

Can't really help with the silencer - I'm in Belgium and there's a guy just up the road from me who makes "made to measure" exhausts.

His website is http://www.skytune.be (it's in foreign!)

I've got his exhausts on 2 of my Alfa's and they do sound very good, although they're not cheap. DOn't know if they distribute into the UK.

There's a video of a Pistonheads run at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWr9uRd4Hec in which you can hear my Alfa 155 Q4, although not on full chat (didn't realise it was being filmed at that time or I would have tried a bit harder!)

can we get seal kits for master and slave for 09/09/99 ts 2.0 to try before messing around with cylinder removal?
