Internal cable rattle

Rear brake cable inside top tube rattles over rough surfaces. I can move it around to quieten for a bit but it soon returns.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like it requires the slack taken up, if it's internal I doubt if you could fit some donuts to it

Actually if i push a bit more in it must bow out,away from the tube 'cos its quieter...for a bit.

I assume this is a sheathed Bowden cable running all the way through the toptube. Can you get into the top tube either from the headtube end or when you remove the seatpost? If you can, then just stuff a long thin piece of foam in there.

I got a length of foam pipe lagging from the plumber's merchant, cut a quarter segment out of it about 40cm long, then slid this into the top tube of my Parlee from the headtube end. Problem solved, no rattles since.

Trying to manipulate the cable by pushing it in, or pulling it out, might solve the problem for a few seconds but as soon as you're on your way the cable starts moving around and the rattle will return, you need something in there to hold the cable roughly in place.

Thanks Simon.. Good idea....I should have thought of that since I'm using upholstery foam most days!!
