Just had an update about Graham Ellis who had a realy horrible crash on Santa Pod today.
He's fractured his skull around his eyes, and got fractures in his neck and back too, but nothing really serious, he can move his legs etc. He's got bruised lungs too, they just need to check how much they swell. On the whole though he's alright.

So a friend of mine went to Santa Pod for the first time yesterday. We'd been planning to take her up for ages, but it had never quite worked out. Only it wasn't quite what we had in mind for her first trip. She was one of the ambulance crew on the helicopter that came to take him to hospital! We'll try and bring her back to actually watch some racing at some point. Glad to hear that Graham's escaped with relatively minor injuries. It could have been a lot worse, and is testament to Andy Robinson's work.

Ive now seen video footage, and its one of the worst I think Ive seen. I watched Robert Joosten go over the wall but this one looks like a bomb going off.
Horrible to see.
It was definitely more horrific, and I was face to face with Robert Joostens crash. Steve Careys bounce along the strip at Dragstalgia was bad enough.Horrible to see.
It seemed like an age to wait for the news, all professionally handled I hasten to add. Not many spectators left their place until it came.
I'm sure I'm not the only one relieved to be mourning the scrapping of a great race car and not a great racer.
The final run of the event was taken by his daughter in Junior Dragster which earned a well deserved round of applause.
Wishing Graham a speedy and full recovery.

Terrible crash and wish Graham a speedy recovery.
From the video, it looked like the car veered at the point on the track where there was previously a constant mopping operation (Mopars)
I sincerely hope this wasn't the cause.
Yes a terrible crash and everyone wishes Graham a speedy recovery BUT lets not start guessing at the cause From the video, it looked like the car veered at the point on the track where there was previously a constant mopping operation (Mopars)
I sincerely hope this wasn't the cause.
The Car did exactly what it was supposed to do in a crash, protect the driver from serious injury
The Emergency crews did exactly what they were supposed to do also and should be praised for their professional actions.
As to the cause lets leave it to the experts.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone, I went to see Graham tonight, he looks like Uncle Fester, I would post a picture but he probably wouldn't thank me for it! He has two black eyes, a broken nose, skull fractures around the eye sockets, broken neck (not serious), broken lower back(again not serious), broken collar bone, broken arm (now in a cast), bruised lungs, he said the worst pain is his hip which I think may be from a seat belt tensioner. He said he hadn't seen the footage of the crash so I showed the you tube clip to him & the nurses, they were astounded that he is even alive, just goes to show how much racecar safety has improved in recent years.
He is in pretty good spirits & already planning his return to the racetrack, he hopes to be out of hospital fairly soon, they are fitting him into a back brace tomorrow & once that is done he reckons they will be able to discharge him in a few days.
I told him how many people on various forums were sending him get well messages & he was gobsmacked, so thanks again all.

If he's swearing then all is good. He's a tough cookie, and no doubt he's been planning his return the minute he got out of the car!He is in pretty good spirits & already planning his return to the racetrack, he hopes to be out of hospital fairly soon, they are fitting him into a back brace tomorrow & once that is done he reckons they will be able to discharge him in a few days.
