Are domestiques well paid?

Nobody in cycling is well paid outside of the few household names. And they will only earn average footballer wages if that.

Lots of the uk teams are barely paid at all. In fact I'd imagine Madison genesis have some guys who barely get paid if they do at all.

I think Wiggo said in his book when he joined Team Linda McCartney it was for 30K PA - I might be wrong though

Sub 20 grand for some of the riders currently riding the TOB and as I said someone like Alex Peters I'd imagine would be on even less if anything.

UCI set minimum wages for different ranking teams - not 100% sure what the limits/rankings are but it will give you an idea on what 75% of the riders are earning.

There was more to it than that if I remember various ways of them getting round it etc. But for the most part it's st money.

I think they did, it was around £30,000 or euros - I can't remember ( this was for many of the pro cycling teams)

Actually, some of the big names earn a decent wage now. Gilbert lives in Monaco which is not a cheap place to live.

Cancellara, contador etc earn a nice sum.

Still these are for the most prominent cyclists. The regular mid peloton pro doesn't get that much.

As above though riders on teams with Continental status like Madison Genesis don't have a minimum wage level so they take whatever they're offered.

On that team guys like Dean Downing and Andy Tennant will be on decent enough money though: Tennant lives not far from me in a reasonable house, especially considering he's doing his and many other people's dream job.

Exactly. I personally know some riders who rode the ToB who don't get paid at all. A couple of bikes for the year, some team kit, some grub and that's about it.
