Anyone know this Tuscan
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm a newbie and starting to get a feel for the Tuscans, trying to guage the cheap against the expensive,
I came across this one on the internet,
http://www.centraltvr.com/classifieds/car/Tuscan/
and wondered if anybody knew anything about it.
I'm very tempted to go for a viewing and just waiting for a bit more info from the owner before making my mind up, thought I would ask on here as well as there appears to be a wealth of knowledge and experience.
thanks in advance for any advice/info.

Yes is quite cheap, why? Possibly Cat C or D, as front has been replaced, later grille, and splitter. Power engine rebuilds normally have a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty, so that will be out now. Dom will , I believe, extend them upon inspection. If it's close go and have a look round it to get a feel for them, then check out some more.

I went to view this car yesterday, knowing in my mind it is a doer upper, there was a small gap with the service history, but plenty of recent stuff for the last 5 years, engine rebuild invoice, and other recipets for work carried out.
The interior looks very tired, which I expected, and the body work has minor blemishes that can be cured, maybe as part of the purchase.
However, I managed to get underneath and view the chassis. This being the 1st Tuscan I've had a proper look at underneath, I don't have anything to guage it against and wondered if some of you guys would give me an indication as to weather this is the norm.
The car hasn't been garaged the last few years, and not covered to many miles, and in my opinon it shows.
Have a look at the pics and let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance guys.

Due to impossibilty of removing all rust without removing frame from shell,
this car has a big problem, not now but in some years.
Rust is like cancer, only way to stop it, is you must remove it 100%!
Typical car with bad maintenance and not garaged and/or driven on salty streets.
I only would buy when under 8000 quids, due to too much work to get this car on
acceptable standard for me.
If you only want to drive it one or 2 years, no problem, but when you want to sell this car
problem comes up again when buyer see this rust.

Thanks for prompt reply, pretty much as I figured, I didn't fancy shelling out the asking price on this, as even with my limited vehicle experience their appeared to be alot of work, with the body of to restore the chassis.
Nice to have a figure to work with though, as for the right price it wouldn't put me off.
Off to view a few more this weekend at the higher end of the spectrum.

would be interested to SEE (if you can take photos again) and hear of your findings.

Managed to get to see another 2 today, both around 19K give or take a few quid, photo's are of chassis( abit harder to get as no ramp/jack available), alot better than the previous car, but neither had an engine rebuild or any other mods to speak off.kelly
Car 1

And Car 2

Both very nice cars, but the lack of mods/engine rebuild has to factored in.
I have others I want to look at both sides of this price range, before making a decision as to which one I'll get inspected.

That doesn't look like reflex purple, but chameleon blue to me... (interior is the same as on mine).I'm a newbie and starting to get a feel for the Tuscans, trying to guage the cheap against the expensive,

Chassis looks really tired, so you'll be looking at a body off job pretty soon I think.
Personal opinion: I wouldn't...
Those chassis particularly the first one need attention asap, On my 3rd TVR now first 2 had tiered chassis and the man hours i needed to put them right was crazy, when i bought the Tuscan i needed as near to mint as i could get, Due to a change in circumstances i am having to sell it on
Best TVR i have owned in terms of condition as well.

Interesting,
my own MK1 Tuscan has got a perfect original chassis ,original i am guessing, but i have invoices for over 32k and none are for any work carried out to chassis hence its original condition.
I have all the photos to show its starting condition was just dirty, once all the dirty was removed and some general grime it showed what i thought on inspection when i bought the car.
On areas where it had a few stone chips it had not even start to show surface rust either.
The only areas where right on the end of the wishbones where is in constant water spray, even then is was only very light surface rust.
Did the factory change it process overtime?

The 2nd car out of the 2 from yesterday was my preferred car, it was as original as you would get, low mileage, good interior and v good body work, and despite the corrosion around the battery connector. But not having any engine rebuild is a bit worrying especially as at that price it would take a massive chunk of the money I have available.
Scotty and Kelly would be interested see your chassis pics for comparison purposes.

So to give this some relevance to this thread below i attached links that show my chassis as the OP asked, and that excellent special cars are out there if only a low percentage for sensible money.
This i would let go for the correct price, which i dont think is expensive either been offered 1.5k PX away from my price i have in my head too without discussions or deals.
I am sure its slightly obvious of my intentions from recent threads.

here is some of what i sent to PH member who asked if i would sell my car, (of course if he is genuinely interested then i would have to let him know of this thread and that i would sell the car)
" I also have many of my photos of the top of the engine (internally) to show all brand new with no trace of any wear at all.
I have a photos of every single cam lobe on both camshafts.
I should get my arse into gear and sort the photos out and post them as I can show ever part of the process in depth.
I have every single mot and service paperwork from new to confirm its 26000 miles only had 4 former owners which I think is very good for such a car and age
I have made my mind up to sell the car be it PX or outright sale ,(not tried to sell yet) I need something new (ideally I want a Ferrari project BUT can only PX Tuscan against good retail car)"
"I have a folder here with £31801 of invoices in total , this is without the parts and work that I have done to the car to complement the rest of the history,
If a paying customer were to ask us to carry out similar work this would in excess of £12000 invoices are available to go with the photos of all the work carried by us.
I must add that the car has covered only around 1500 miles distance since all the relevant major work has been done.
I.e. engine, engine updates , clutch , brakes , suspension , chassis , tyres , water hoses , repaint , HID lights , suspensions joints , suspension bushed , gearbox and engine mounts , alternator , battery , starter motor , alarm , immobiliser , stereo , coil pack , HT leads , de cat (with original cats too) , door seals roof seals , the list is massive."
i will say that i only thought about selling due to wanting to buy more importantly own a ferrari 355, i am in no rush and i have days when i think keep the Tuscan and days when i think move on.
There is no other reasons for selling the car other then i fancy a change.
seeing the woes of tuscans for sale has made me think more so IF to keep my tuscan as its seems to becoming harder and harder to find a decent early car.
the price i would sell is very close to the price in this thread of cars you viewed
