Will be travelling to Australia and Dubai later this year. Tempted to open a Metro bank account so I can take advantage of no fees abroad. Any one done this or got any opinions?

Yes, I had it for over a year as it is well worth it for this alone.

I did mention it on here a while ago but got told I was talking rubbish so couldn't be bothered to argue. I've used it in 6 or 7 countries in the last year and always get spot rate with no fees.

Thanks. Strange that people thought you were talking rubbish. Nationwide did it for many years and I opened an account because of it about 12 years ago, still my main current account! Shame that they decided to remove the benefit and offer free travel insurance instead.

Apparently, Nationwide now do a credit card which does a no-fee spot rate on purchases. I haven't had time to check it out yet but I have a friend who swears by it.

Though if I know the PO, they will simply make it in the exchange rate instead.

I don't believe that's the case; the interest rates charged if not paid off in full each month are pretty steep though.

Yeap, my main source of spending abroad. Surprising that it's cheaper to pay for your restaurant bill by credit card than converted cash.
The card also gives cash back on UK purchases.

All the alternatives mentioned are credit cards, appears metro is only one offering no fees using a debit card.
