In the UK, the prevailing norm is SW. For the last month, locally at least, there has been a lot of (colder) westerly winds.

On Sunday, the four hours between getting up to walk the dogs and being out on the bike for just over two hours, I saw it move W, SW, SE. A conspiratorial mind, unlucky enough to be on the 'wrong' sort of circular route might believe he had his own, personal, perpetual headwind.

Wind is always quoted as 'from' and as someone already pointed out, the prevailing wind, certainly in the South is South-Westerly.

It is a little-known fact that there are not 4, but 5 principal points on a compass. North, South, East, West, and WRONG! Which is why cyclists all over the country will swear that, whichever way they turn, the wind is always coming from the 'wrong' direction

I rode a loop on Sunday, and somehow I had a headwind all the way around. I don't even know how that's possible.

As a lifelong surfer overlooking the sea, I am obsessed by wind; it makes or breaks good waves. And my conclusion over the years is that forecasts are mostly wrong and a force 9 headwind makes riding a bit tricky.

We are currently being battered here by winds straight off the Atlantic! Sea view means sea hammering when it's windy.

The area is a collection of hills and valleys, very close to the coast. We get all sorts of bizarre wind effects caused by funnelling etc. My city is famous for its wind
