Who's # 1

So...as my previous post went...my hinges are shot so I started to make a way to remove the nylon inserts to replace them. Got the door cards off and noticed the numbers 283 marked on the doors. I realized this is the production number of the car as it matches the last 3 digits of the chassis (makes me happier to know the car is still all original). I do not know if the chassis numbers reset to 1 every year or for the run of the model.

So, without to much seriousness in this...I am wondering who has the first and who has the last S built? Oh, and I was told there was like 560ish ever made...so, mid run, not bad .

Having contacted the oracle of the Model Register when exploring the history of my S3, I was told that the numbers are the production of that model during that year of manufacture so there should be a #1 in every year that the S3s were being built. At the rate of attrition of these cars in the early 2000s I would be surprised if they are still on the road! Mind is 163 '91 out of an estimated run of about 500.

Justin, number 283 in 1987 would make that a very early car. On an owners list from 1991 that Glenrobbo kindly shared with me, yours would be the 4th S on the list, following the factory prototype (200), a 'D' reg car (234), and no. 260. These are just the cars known to the TVR Club, so there are probably more, but maybe not many more because the majority of cars built during the time were 350i's.

David...that is very interesting...no wonder there are small slight differences from others
