Hope he makes a good recovery. Remember seeing him in CHainspotting, then meeting him and Hawesey at Bike 98. Top bloke.

We’ve just had the first official word on Martyn Ashton’s condition after his fall at the start of the month:
Martyn Ashton, international mountain bike trials legend, ex-World Champion and star of the Road Bike Party YouTube sensation, was injured during a trials demo held on Sunday 1st September at Silverstone’s Moto GP, England. During one of the stunts on the Animal WD40 Action Sports Tour, Martyn fell backwards off of a three metre-high bar and hit the ground with significant force. The impact caused severe damage to his spine, dislocating the T9 and T10 vertebrae. After paramedics stabilised him at the scene, Martyn was swiftly airlifted to Coventry Hospital where he received emergency treatment and was admitted to Intensive Care.

The initial prognosis is not positive: Martyn has currently lost feeling below the point of injury. He has now been moved to RJ&AH Hospital Oswestry’s Specialist Spinal Care Unit where he is receiving treatment and undergoing further tests to assess the extent of his injuries and to map the road to recovery.

I'd heard he'd had a serious off. Didn't realise quite this serious...

I've read a bit about his accident / injury sounds bad, they say he has no feeling below 9th vertebrae - excuse the stupid question, I assume that means he can't move his legs etc, not just they're numb?
Anyway, it seems he's got 5 weeks total bed rest (of 6) ahead of him before they can assess the damage properly - hope he makes a full recovery, he's a hugely strong guy, even falling from 3 metres I'm surprised about how badly he's hurt himself.

Another in the apparently long and universal line of people who have met him at an event and found him to be a very nice chap.
He was at oktoberfest, along with Steve Pete. Steve is a multiple downhill champion and bike icon. So everyone is queuing up for a photo.I queued up, handed my camera to Steve and asked him for a picture of Martyn and I. Steve took it with good grace (and then proceeded to kick everyones arse around Ashton Court....).
