Really hard changing up a gear??

having pulled my bike out of the garden after years, I have changed the crankset, 7 speed sprockets rear wheel and chain, i have a real problem trying to change gears up, down they go ok, pretty easy really, but up, I have to grip it as hard as i could, and twist as hard as i can, and by doing that, i unstuck my grip, which makes it even harder to change gear :s

could that be down to the derailleur being nackered, and stuck??

i have never changed bits on a bit before, just got on it and ridden, so excuse me for my ignorance.

Sounds like you need new cables.

Have you tried adjusting the barrels at either end of the gear cables? One way makes it easier to shift up the other way easier to shift down - essentially it move the derailleur slightly one way or the other.

Worth a try as it only takes a couple of minutes

no i have not tried adjusting anything, just taking old bits off and new bits on, didnt know you could adjust bits like that, but will give it ago.


and if its just new cables i will just chuck some of them on then cheers
