I've an interview this coming Friday. I've been told specifically that the interview will consist of 45 minutes of non-competency based questions. Ideally I'd like to rehearse answers to questions or variations of questions which are likely to come up - but the problem is I can't find any examples of such questions. Plenty of competency based ones, but none of the others.

Any help or links to websites with such questions would be great...

Cheers.

I remember being asked which newspaper I read and then to comment on what I liked about any of its reporters.

Perhaps I'm being thick but according to a quick google, competency-based interview questions are aimed at graduates with no work experience to establish a pattern of behaviour to help the interviewer decide if a graduate with no experience is suitable for the job. So a non-competency-based interview question must surely be one about experience eg give me an example of how you dealt with a difficult situation at work.

Competency based interviews focus on behaviours, e.g. teamworking, leadership, resilience, customer focus etc

Non-competecy are probably going to be more technical/skills based or around why you for this role?

e.g.
take us through your CV drawing out the skills, acheivements and experience that you think make you suitable for this role
questions around any skills required for the role e.g. use of software, core duties for that role, relevant legislation
why us and why now?
what do you know about the firm/role? what research have you done?

Non competency cliché questions used to be things like;

What's your greatest success/failure and why?
Why do you want this job?
What hobbies do you have?
Do you take part in team sports?
What newspaper and TV programme are your favourites etc. etc.

But, the above may have just stuck in my mind as the more pointless questions I've been asked.
