OSM and Garmin 800

Ok guys I need a little help from those in the know.
Got hold of an 800 the other day and have grabbed a map from OSM. No matter how I try to load it onto the micro SD, on turning the unit on I get the same message, " Cannot authenticate maps".
So what ma I doing wrong? Followed the description on DC Rainmakers site and that dosent work. Have used the Garmin map installer, (which recognises the map and throws it on to the card), but to no avail.

Download the UK routable maps with contours to your PC from the Talkytoaster site http://talkytoaster.info/ukmaps.htm#GPSRs-Only
Extract the IMG file from the zip and rename it to GMAPSUPP.IMG and then copy to the Garmin SD card
Once it has copied over (it will take ages), eject the 800.
On the 800 go into Menu>Settings>System>Map>Map Information
Locate the OSM map you downloaded, click it and then Enable
Scroll down to the Basemap, click it and select Disable
Extract the IMG file from the zip and rename it to GMAPSUPP.IMG and then copy to the Garmin SD card
Once it has copied over (it will take ages), eject the 800.
On the 800 go into Menu>Settings>System>Map>Map Information

On the SD Card you put the GMAPSUPP.IMG file in the Garmin folder right?
If so, try another SD card if possible. If not possible, try formatting the SD card and then power up the Garmin again for it to automatically recreate the necessary folders, then re-copy the map over

Formatted the card. disconnected the 800, turned it on and let it do its thing then turned it off. Re-connected to the pc and checked the card, nothing on there bar a 1kb file. So created a new folder and called it Garmin. Sent the map into this folder and disconnected the 800. Turned it on and Lo, all is good. Looking in the settings though there are now three maps there. The NTL standard basemap which is disabled; a Mapset which is disabled and an enabled TT OSM British Isles + Contours.

You'll want to create the other folders manually as well underneath the Garmin folder. They will be the same as the ones found on the internal memory - I have Activities, Courses, NewFiles and Workouts on mine.
You can also set it to record to the SD card as well by going into Menu>Settings>System>Data Recording and choosing to record to memory card, although sometimes Strava doesn't auto read the files and you have to choose manual upload. Not sure why this is
