Never heard of them, but it seems like an interesting idea - you couldn't just copy all the mini steel panel in aluminium though, it's differing qualities to steel would require for some changes to the shell I would have thought?

You can get Carbon fibre and Glass fibre shells though...

I quite like the idea of just galvanising the standard mini shell - i.e. take a heritage shell and have it galvanised before building it up...

If you've are serious, I can put you in contact with a bloke who will do it for you. Recently, he has made an alloy TVR for someone and I believe has made a few lightweight E types.

Email me, he isn't THAT expensive.

There are fibreglass shells with Kevlar reinforcement available.

Ideal for hybrid powerplants and even better caged up.

Last time I was up at Mini Machine I mean M-Machine (sorry adolf), asked them if they could do it and they were telling that they had been looking into it for a Japanese customer. My be worth giving them a ring.

When you say ally doors, do you mean ally Skins or a complete Door ? If so where from, that would be good...

The GRP shells are a misnoma as they are as heavy or heavier due to the strengthening.

You can get CF front end, roof skin, boot lid, boot floor, doors and a few other bits.

Thats going to be the best way to do it I reckon.

I think someone over in japan made some, i have heard of them, but as far as i remember, they weren't uk road legal, because so few were made and no crash testing was done.

I'm sure that Steve Harris (BJ autobits / harris eng./ Cranborne, Dorset) had a part aluminium shell that was built as a touring car but i'm not a 100% sure. He used it as the basis for a hillclimber. If it wasnt aluminium it was definatley made with lightweight panels.

Seriously, if M-Machine refuse to get one made, this bloke will do it. He would beat you one out of titanium if you wanted/could afford it. Total craftsman.
