Just about to order a sport touring (if BMW can find me one to test drive as I've only tried the 530D).
Anything I should be aware of before taking the plunge? I've heard some rumours that the turbos are a weakness ....
I also get conflicting advice from the dealer about whether the sat nav really does offer any kind of traffic info, particularly whether it can reroute you real time around major jams, eg on the M25. And whether the sat nav head up display is currently available (like it purports to in the sales brochure).
Thanks for any advice!

Can't answer your first questions but the dealer I spoke with confirmed the HUD is not ready for the UK market yet and was predicting early next year. Something to do with windscreen manufacturers for the right hand drive market IIRC.
with regard to the question on satnav being able todo rerouting around traffic jams etc this is the TMC function. Yes it is available on both the Business and Professional nav systems in the new 5-series.
I have the Business system in my car and after a recent software update it now works fine. very useful feature.

Great car ! Enjoy.
I would say though that Sat Nav in BMW's is an area where they could improve.
The Sat Nav in Lexus, jaquar, even cars like Subaru are much better systems than those fitted in BMW.s. The others have moved to post code selection and tocuh screen inputs, while BMW persist with that darn knob to twiddle...

I understand that the alleged turbo problem is due to inadequate cooling if the engine (and therefore oil flow) is turned off immediately after some “enthusiastic” driving. I let the engine idle for few seconds prior to switching off if it has been worked hard. Hopefully this gives the oil a chance to take some of the heat out of the turbo unit.
Recently had test drive in 535d sport saloon. Currently own a 530d E60. It took me half a day to decide to order a new 535d sport. Not only does it go like a bat out of hell but it feels more refined, handles better and looks the part. it feels its worth whereas my current car may be quick it feels vague round bends with its active steering, it even has sports suspension but still doesn't feel right.
Head up Display is available and TMC will guide you round 90% of traffic delays.
We have a 535d Sport Saloon Demo with both options fitted it's not a touring but they don't drive any different if you are struggling.....(on the condition i get the order)
edited to add it has also got the new 19" alloys
