The Mrs works for M&S and they've introduces RTW scheme exclusively with Halfords unfortunately.

For her maximum of £1000, is this the best bike available there? Halfords Boardman Team Carbon

Yes.

Or join British Cycling, get the additional 10% off, and stump up the extra for the full Team Carbon which is 1299 retail.

Halfords customer services have told me their 2014 bikes are due next month. There may be discounts on the 2013 bikes, but no guarantees.

I've also heard rumors that they are putting a sale on soon. Likely the 2013 models in line for the 2014 stuff coming out.

I would check with your local bike shop. My work only issues halfords C2W vouchers but my local store accepts them.

Heard that from a mate in Halfords. No details but expected "soon"

technically not allowed, you need to find a friendly store willing to bend the rules

I don't know if your scheme works the same as my girlfriend's, she has to get the bike from Halfords but they will order stuff that they don't stock.

Really? Very interesting if thats a possibility ... we'd like to avoid Halfords if possible so she gets more choice.

That was the bike she would have preferred but when we enquired at Halfords they said no to putting the extra towards the bike.

Although if her options are opened up to other shops, I think she'd rather go for a Trek Madone 2 series ...

when i worked at halfords, if we were going to get a big sale, hitting all of our targets etc, the manager had been known to find a way to put the voucher through.... wink

Excellent, thanks for that.

The Boardman looks 'ok' but the groupset & wheels are poor and ideally I wanted her to have a better choice which she looks like she has.

I doubt if any local bike shop (Halfords is mine anyway!) will have anything that comes close to the Boardman for the money

When I investigated a few years ago Halfords C2W would source ANY bike you like, not just the stuff their retail operation stocks. You just phone them up with whichever Specialized, Giant, Kona, Bianchi, Trek or Cannondale bike you're interested in and they'll give the price.

Don't know about C2W, but when I had my Giant Trance stolen a few years back, I was told by the house insurance that I would get a voucher to be spent in Halfords. They were able to order me in most nationally available brands, so I went for a Specialized FSR XC.

My company uses the Halfords scheme but there is a very long list on our intranet of bike shops all over the country you can use instead of Halfords.

It's very long, but split by region, let me know where you are and I'll copy paste your local shops.
