Looking around there don't seem to be many of these for sale, the ones that are look a bit scrappy or are to my mind way overpriced.
Does anyone on here have one and commission someone to make them a decent one?
If so what sort of money are you looking at and who would you recommend?
The real thing will a bit of limits for now.

I think you need to be clear on what you want - a lookie likey or something that is based on a period correct chassis with the correct running gear etc. There is a big difference in the way they drive and a huge difference in price. £25k will buy you a back date but you'll need more than double that to get a nice period car. If you commission someone to build you a car to the correct RS specification I think you are looking at £70k+.
The Paul Stevens car looks interesting - ex race car based on a genuine 2.4 E that has had some paint and a fresh engine rebuild. Not the correct engine but probably a lot of fun for the money. Really depends on whether there is any rust and how well it is finished.

I'm nearly finished on a'72 car rebuild. I've actually de-RS'd it, more of a gruppe r/st look. Total respray, 3.0 engine on carbs, light weight interior. The car is gulf blue. I've sacrificed seem originality in favour of making it more usable - sc brakes and a wevo shifter. Be warned, getting a 70's car in good shape is not a cheap hobby....
No affiliation, I stress, and auctions need a guiding hand, but Historics has several RS clones at its 31 August auction at Brooklands. See www.historics.co.uk. Maybe a starting point for a project?
Interesting thread. I'm taking a change of direction with cars and decided to get an interesting 911 to keep stored in the UK for times when i'm there or fancy a long european road trip (anybody that knows Singapore will understand why this makes sense!). Been considering a a 2.7RS or ST 'evocation'/replica, something I can drive and enjoy but not have to be too precious about. There are a few interesting ones around at the moment but also considering taking on a conversion project......or more correctly taking on someone to do a conversion project for me. I'm not too worried about authenticity, its going to be to enjoy and therefore doesn't need to be matching numbers, or that accurate under the skin. I have a few irons in the fire at the moment but if anyone knows of any builds going on at the moment which maybe for sale shortly would be happy to hear.

Yes, 1979. The front slam panel and the front wings are correct pre 73 items. The previous owner spent nearly £16k on the body alone with a top specialist, plus the car, since then a further 15k has been spent.(Plus countless hours work!)

DDK is a good place to go and ask and it's a lot of fun working out what you want especially if you go and drive a few.
In mine I wanted something that didn't have to be detail correct, but did have to have the absolute essence of what the 73 RS was from a driving point of view. I had one that had been built on a 73 car so not backdated. It had G50 rear wings rather than RS flares which I didn't mind.
For me it was very important that it had a 2.7 RS spec engine on MFI. It was utterly intoxicating!!
But as many people (inc me) have found out beware the financial pitfalls. I spent a huge amount of money on what I had originally thought was a finished car with a few bits and bobs to be done! Fortunately, the value went up too so I didn't lose any money along the way.
