Aside from Sunday being a day McLaren would no doubt love to forget the FIA have to do something. It's not a good omen when you rely on the weather and pit-lane phuqups to create a little interest.

I know they have discussed a one make engine scenario but that iradicates half the competitive interest soooo I was thinking.
a, iradicate all telemetry/electronic driver assistance. ECU controls engine and that's it, and none of this "Oh that's just some old software left on the ECU" - my arse!
b, How about a one make tub? What the designers then bolt onto it in the way of an engine and aerodynamics means you're focusing on pure mechanics and downflow vs. speed. F1 is popular because it is seen to be cutting edge this would still allow individuality.
c, Smaller tanks = more pit stops? Remove the 2 way radio to add a bit of spice? (can see that that one might be difficult).

Dunno, what do you lot think? And no Flasher/Mondeoman full nudity obligatory for all the brolly dollies is not the way to go (save that for PH trackdays please).

Let them have full slicks to increase mechanical grip but reduce the amount of downforce the cars have by having smaller wings. That would make things more interesting by making overtaking easier.

Get rid of the traction control, automatic gearboxes, telemetry and all that gubbins (technical term . Give them a standard H-pattern gearbox and a manual clutch

Make the cars stronger so that when they touch they can carry on.

Tell Bernie Ecclestone to get out of Ferrari's (and MS's) arse and vice versa.

Simple. Do away with the giant tea tray/ad hording at the rear. This means late braking into corners without encountering 'dirty' air and so more overtaking on the track. Job done!

SBD has hit the nail on the head here. It does seem odd that very unusaul weather is the only means to get a good race. As Jim whateverhisnameis said "last year people were falling asleep".

A set weather just means dull racing (either wet or dry). Time to put the driver back into cars. Its been said before, get rid of traction control etc. put slicks back on and change rear wing to 1 element.

Strange watching the highlights of the race and seeing Rubins and Monty fight it out reminded me of the good old days with senna, prost, mansel etc.

Well, I was there watching from the grandstand at Copse. The Rubins/Monty battle was a bit of fun but short-lived.

To be honest, the best part of the day was the historics race after the F1! Every car sideways round Copse - and I mean EVERY car - and some excellent close quarters (if gentlemanly) racing.

Best bet would be to put all the F1 drivers into pre-1965 machinery and see what fun that it!!

Yup that short battle was about the only hi-light aside from watching the Williams refuel guy going apeshit with the dodgy nozzle.
I (personally) think it has to be a 2 prong approach, one to try and get the cars more equal in terms of overall performance and two as mentioned below to restrict dynamic performance so as to try and cut out the procession factor.

Ref. driver "aids" get rid completely please!

Not forgetting weight penalties for race winners. No driver aids, fixed for the season aerodynamic aids, control tyres......

I think that F1 can be improved by simply changing the runes so that all cars must carry a vertical strip on the rear wing witch creates a lager hole in the are behind the car like champ carts making it easer to get a tow and in proving over tacking opportunities.

I think that the rules are pity good at the moment and to add any more restrictions would spoil the sport as there is barely any room for creativeness at the moment (i.e. no 6 wheals or other interesting mechanical ideas recently ) apart from in the cars software.

I understand the point made about F1 getting a bit dull but am not sure that changing the rules is the way to go. The time will come when schumacher and ferrari loose their grip on the championship. Maybe not this year or next, but thats how it goes. The sport and motoring in general benefits from the development and testing done by F1. Ferrari should be penalised for being top of the pile,... and if williams, mclaren and jordan dont get their $hit together, they can expect to keep loosing.
Maybe Brasil should have to play footy in platform boots to give everyone else a chance.

Why don't they show the historics on ITV? Better than watching Martin Brundle piss about on a motorbike and sidecar, or watching Ryan Giggs do a few uppies.

I like the 'skip pan idea' - have sprinkler hoses
places around the circuit and have the water turned on
when the race either looks boring or just to spice it up a bit.. The brolly dolly thing is a top idea too..
perhaps get Suzi Perry doing the commentary instead of
the very boring James "oh I love Ferrari soo much - I named my son Enzo" Allan.

The intention here is not penalise people for being good and I think it would be a shame to jump allover MS/Ferrari because they are the best package. I am postulating that F1 has been getting steadily more boring recently and I'd like to see an effort made to create more racing as opposed to who can win the techno-battle. I appreciate that this is a race in itself but it isn't very interesting to watch!!

How about just leave F1 alone all this talk about make all the cars the same, what like Formula Palmer Audi? Go and watch that instead all the sugestions are good in there own right but chances are another race series exsists just like it, it may not be televised every other Sunday, so just go out and watch it live!

More Power, less grip, less electronics....

They are supposed to provide racing, not processions.

BUT......

they are making money, they get sponsorship, the crowds turn out to watch (association) so it aint gonna change.

If you want to see racing, you'll have to find something else...

And there is plenty of other stuff to watch, any race circuit around the country every weekend will have great close overtaking racing for betwen £10-20 and you will have complete access to the pits/paddock aswell.

I agree that the best way to watch racing is to get to a circuit but unfortunately its not always practical. Suppose you live nowhere near one? What if you work at the weekend say and can't get go to work and to a meet. What if you've got 3 kids? Its turning into an expensive day out. The fact is: F1 is on telly so people will watch it. What can be done to make it better viewing? Discuss...

Get rid of the chicanes, make the circuits faster again, then more corners where you have a a long sweeping turn onto a decent straight with a sensible corner at the end, not a 180deg 30 mph thng, but a good 90deg would do it, see them all overtaking under breaking....... goota be the way to go...

Here's my solution to F1's problem........

Hang that German f***er
and it would instantly be entertaining......whilst at the same time get rid of the biggest cheat in F1 history....

he might be the best driver, but he is undoubtedly the worst sportsman...IMO, of course
