Want to leave my current role -asked for sideways move. BUT.
Discussion
I have told my current manager I dont see myself doing what i am currently doing. Been here for around 14months.
My whole team has been decimated with attrition. And as such my workload has gone through the roof....coupled with doing two peoples jobs and my baby boy being a few weeks old now.
I thinks its time for me to look elsewhere. Local manager supports it. Very Senior management it seems are panicking and cant see why I am considering leaving the team. Maybe they dont want to lose a head?
So now I have a meeting with a few directors in my division and will be asked why etc. Feels unnerving and truth be told after the past few months of hell I just want out.
Anyone here moved sideways inorder to further their career? Or get some breathing space?

Hey hey,
I think we're in a similar position, in the same industry (but different parts of it).
I took a promotion 9months ago into my previous mangers shoes. Turns out I was pulling above average weight on team beforehand, so my replacement cannot take it on- leaving muggins here doing my current role and half of my old one.
It's a huge pain in the arse, kind of stuck in limbo. The biggest, most monumental pain in the arse is that I can't fire away in the new role at 100%.
Im aiming to more to a new role (sideways or upwards) by the end of the year.
THEY WON'T WANT YOU TO MOVE AS IT MEANS HASSLE FOR THEM. Sideways will pretty much always mean new skills/networks, do it.

Director who I have never spoke to before but heard off. Personally called me for a chat. Thia guy prettty much greenlighted my whole wider team. 10 people..
Said he does not want me to move etc, lots of options and opportunities and so on.
Gave me 3 options.
1. Offshore my workload. Which cant happen I think as they are low on capacity....
2. Stick around for opps certainly coming to the team
3. Help me move within his area to another role I would prefer.
So god knows. Anyhow I am still chasing my applications for sideways.
I told him the role was a piss take and he agreed. Very surprising call.
No doubt me moving would cause a monumental screw up in my current team. I mean doing 2 peoples jobs...
But alas thats the situation

Could the s
t position have come about because of someone between you and him not sorting the 'talent pipeline' (i was just sick in my mouth a little) the Director finds out, goes apes
t and steps in to try and keep you on board?
If so, it could be a good position to be in, kind of backed up by option 3 - if he's wanting to keep you in his sphere...
