Fantasy car for Euro bike trip - better than a C8 !!
Discussion
3 of us have just travelled from the UK to the Alps with 3 bikes to ride some Col's and had a jolly good time
During the course of the trip we had plenty of time to talk rubbish and one of the topics was which car would we have rather been in than our 10y old Citroen people carrier
The thing is there was no easy answer - hence this thread
Harris' recent fast estate vid would have provided the easy answer for 2 blokes plus bikes however with 3 of us theres no way we would have safely got ££££££ worth of bikes inside securely for Peage food stops plus an overnight motel
Similarly a Cayenne or Panamera were also prime candidates but just wouldnt have easily got our bikes inside and out of harms way behind tinted glass for the stops
The most likely candidate was an R class MB which isnt something we knew much about
The safe moneys on a Transit
Thoughts?
Surely Range Rover supercharged is the sensible choice - you'd get three bikes in the back of that without much bother (1 seat down and front wheels off, middle bike forward, other two backward). I seem to remember a fixing kit much like the roof bars of old that had a front wheel skewer attachment for the luggage rails.
Edit: a slideable frame wouldn't cost that much to fabricate - would even leave the space behind the remaining passenger seat for your luggage.
Alternatively VW Transporter 180bhp kombi sportline or Mercedes Vito with the v6?

Isn't that the Transit with the XJ220 running gear? I recognise those wheels!
Certainly is. Photo was taken in the assembly area near the start line at the Festival of Speed. Hence the #95 entry sticker in the front window, and the tops of the bales in the foreground. It is awesome, and I think it was in the top ten timed runs on the Saturday afternoon. Watching it blast past the Flint Wall with Justin Law at the wheel is mental, I don't think that bloke knows how to hold anything back.I'm sure there's room in the back for a bike rack mounted around/above the engine, and space to put some luggage in. Not sure what the seating arrangement is up front, but I'm sure there's space to fit three seats if you want to. Traffic light Grands Prix would be interesting too. Not many non petrolheads would have any idea what's under the bonnet (or in this case mounted in the middle of the load space) or why exactly that very ordinary looking Ford Transit just vanished in a cloud of tyre smoke
