I realised I haven't put a thread up on here about it so having washed the car and removed most of the pigeon debris (poop, and bits of the one I hit on the motorway lodged in the grille).
I got it at the end of January and have done 17k miles since, averaging about 49mpg. It's a bit of a marmite car, particularly as mine is a RWD '18d' which means the normal BMW 2.0 TD engine de-tuned to 140ish BHP. So why on earth did I order one? Well it's a company car, so emissions are important and 129g of CO2 is pretty good for a car this size. The real answer though, is that I wanted a new F10 3er Touring but couldn't stretch the budget to a 318d Luxury and this was cheaper!
It's an X1 sDrive 18d xLine to give it its full title, which gets you copper interior trim, leather, 18" alloys and a few other nice bits. On top of that I went for the driver comfort pack (cruise, front parking sensors and more exterior lighting) and a rain/light sensor. Of the three wheel choices I went for Style 321 which looks the best, but is by far the hardest to clean so I do occasionally wish I'd gone for the chunky 5 spoke Sport wheels...
I chose jet black, with brown leather which some people think looks great, and some people think is worse than being stuck in a lift with Jedward but I like it (not Jedward, the interior). These cars can look terrible, particularly if it's an SE in silver or red with small wheels but I think mine looks quite smart. It is astonishing how much money you could spend on an X1 though - mine was just over £30k, and I left nav, metallic, xenons, heated seats, privacy glass and lots of other bits on the options list, as well as going for the smallest engine and 2WD so you could easily spend well over £40k on one!

I personally don't understand what this car is for, it is almost an offroad 1 series, but has 2wd and a tiny engine.
The mind is baffled that an Aston V8 vantage can be had for less than this, or a clean E92 M3 with enough change to run the car.
Anyway, I like the colour combination, the contrast looks good. Obviously for your work needs the emissions have to be low so the cars above are probably at least double or triple the emissions you are allowed. Looks like a nice place to be when commuting too.

The list was pretty long actually, but you'd be amazed how little £30k will buy you brand new now.
The X1 is actually an E90 3er Touring, jacked up a bit rather than 1 series size, my last car was a 325d and this has at least as much room inside.
At the same price I could have had a basic C Class, A4 or 316d estate but I wanted leather and some toys as I do over 30k miles a year in it. I have a 10 week old baby and various bicycles so need an estate so unfortunately a loaded 120d M Sport wasn't going to be big enough.
As it's a lease car residual values are important, I looked at a Volvo V60 and Mazda CX5 but both were a load more a month than this in similar spec.
Of course if it was my own cash I'd have a Dacia Duster as a daily driver, and swap the MX5 for a 997 or SL, or if I had to spend all the money on a new car I'd have a Freelander but emissions make it impossible to run one as a company car.

Yeah, RVs are pretty shoddy compared to the German stuff, and the 1.6d is too slow for words so I was looking at a 2.0 D3 in mid spec with leather and it was £40 a month more than this even though it was cheaper to buy and has tyres which are half the price (18" run flats on the X1, 17s on the Volvo). True, but there's very little reason to pick the other options over this either. The C class comes with vinyl seats, the A4 doesn't ride or handle properly, a 316d ES doesn't have any nice bits, and is too slow and everything else either emits too much CO2, is too expensive to lease or isn't big enough!Really don't see why you went for this over pretty much anything else.

Its slow, fuel economy is pish, it rattles, the dashboard is made of the cheapest plastic known to man, it has the turning circle of the QE2 and is one of the worst handling cars I've ever driven.
I hate it so much I'm considering handing it back and just walking to work.

£30k may seem like a lot for what most would see as a jacked up 1 Series, but I suppose your right OP, £30k wouldn't have got you much else. That is the smartest colour/wheel/interior combo I've seen on an X1, I'm especially liking the interior.
I'd have gone Ford. Glad the OP likes it though.
