I went straight to the pictures and just glanced over them. Wondered why create the thread, then glanced at the description and realized why. Least the kit doesnt look shite.

think it looks pretty good. but too expensive. will be worth £25 - £30k? really, for a 2.8 fiero underneath? A diablo was on autotrader for £39k and that was genuine...

the exhausts are yet to be changed. the guy says as much in the advert that it needs exhausts. I think its a damn sight better than 99% of replicas you see - 355/MR2s for example.

sorry but I beg to differ

when you have owned the real thing you will know its a poor replica

if I had the money I'd buy all these kit cars and get them crushed

congratulations on winning "patronising post of the year award" Ted duly notified for Black Tie. Guessing you didnt earn all that money to buy your £40k diablo in public relations?

It cant be too much of a "poor replica" if you can only tell it apart once you have owned the real thing can it?

Once its finished, it will be pretty good as far as replicas go. Whether you like replicas, or agree with the principle, is a totally different issue. This one, if finished properly, will be as close to the original as you will find, without it being original. Rightly or wrongly, I consider that a good replica. A poor replica would look nothing at all like its intended target.

No offence intended - I think we're coming from different directions. My point is that regardless of whether this is as good a replica of a Diablo as you can buy, it is still not a very good copy if you know what you're looking at. Sadly Joe Public will probably think it is the real thing.

Each to their own but when people pay the same money for a fake as the real thing I think they need their head examining...

There was an article in Autocar a few months ago on a replica Diablo which they took to a guy who had owned a real one for several years and he couldnt tell the difference.

The owner of the company that produced it said he got a lot of orders for parts from owners of genuine owners as they were well made and only cost a fraction of the real ones.

Cant remember what the company was called.

Can think of better things to buy with the cash than that one though

I agree, its awful. I cannot stand kitcars as a whole and just can't see the point of them. Someone I know is into kits in a big way and harps on about the 'time and workmanship' involved. I say get a life loser!

point taken. The fact that Joe Public will think its the real thing (and as you say you would only be able to tell it was a replica having owned the real mccoy) is a sign of a good replica though surely? I accept that the whole replica issue is another kettle of fish.

The main problem I have with this particular car is the engine. All show, no go. I would feel a tosser driving around in this and then some jumped up TVR driver (such as myself) giving it some welly alongside it (which I usually do just to see how much quicker my dream cars are against mine, and to hear the V12...) and with a 2.8 ford lump in will be blown away by me. how dissapointing...

the countach replica referred to in this post, on the other hand, appears much more like it. 5.7 V8 so will go like sh1t off a shovel, sound awesome and be cheaper to maintain than the real mccoy. I am almost tempted myself...

Have to say the COuntach looks pretty good to me

The diablo looks awful inside....

I saw a replica last yearof a 355 as it overtook me - i thought that looks a bit odd and caught up...

He obviously had a limiter at 110 ish as that was all it would do...it looks as if the rear is far more upturned than a normal 355 adn it appears too , well stunted....

SH*T basically..... and anyone who cannot tell the difference needs their eyes tested... i wonder why these guys dont spend their hard earned cash on a proper sportcar for their money....I mean 20k for the countach buys a damn good Griff or Cerb

yep, agree entirely. I am yet to see a 355 replica that is convincing to anyone other than my mum. Any car enthusiast can tell its not the real thing and you look a gimp.

Some of the lambo replicas (such as the countach here) are designed independantly, not based on A N other car and that added plastic to make a lookelikey. In effect, its an engineered sports car from scratch that is just replicating a good design, albeit to rip off the genuine thing.

The diablo one is unfinished, so the exhaust is not done, the interior is unfinished and its unconvincing. If the next owner finishes it properly, it may be a good replica. Would I pay £30k for it. No. I would buy an early original one for £40k. That countach though, with air con and built to a very high standard, might tickle my taste buds. All the fantastic looks that i remember from my bedroom posters, with a f off engine producing big BHP and a glorious sound, with yank reliability and drivetrain, cheap insurance and servicing.

PS - got some good footage for PH tv of Le Mans both this year and last. 03 we camped right next to you lot, this year over in Houx but were in convoy with flasher for the weekend. Think he caught up with you on the curves friday morning....

now the thought of cruising down the track on the friday through them bends and down the mulsanne with the doors up is tempting me further.....

I think if kit cars is your thing then good luck to you. Even the good ones don't really look right, I wouldn't have one, but I don't really think it's right to critiscise ... I just feel a little sorry for them ... lol
