I've finally got the fund for some bars and a bike mount for my car (2008 C class Mercedes).

Can anyone recommend a set of bars and roof mounts for my a road bike? I don't have rails on the car as its a saloon and don't want anything that attaches to the boot.

There's just to much choice out there. I need some practical PH knowledge!!

I have Thule square bars, and the cheaper Thule bike rack to go on them. The bike rack is great, but the bars are really noisy so with hindsight I'd go for aero bars instead.

Another vote for aero bars over square bars. The difference in noise is unbelieveable!

I use Thule aero bars (old style aero as opposed to the newer style wing bars) and the cheaper (older) version of the Thule carrier. Never had any issues carrying either my road bike or my full sus mountain bike.

As an alternative, I've been looking at these:

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/minoura/vergo-...

Which let you stand your bike up in the back of the car, assuming you've got a hatch with folding seats.

ETA. not sure which C-Class derivative you have?

Have a look at what the roofbox.co.uk offer.

I already had roof bars but they have a range of bike mounts from atera.

The way they set up and clamp the forks is excellent, currently looking at thier towbar mounts for all of the family bikes.

I went for the some square bars from Go Outdoors, forget the name. They were £55. The value bike rack from Halfrauds is perfectly good and only £20.

The bars whistle above 50 mph but otherwise are not too loud.
