Currently looking for work in online retail and I've been offered the chance to work at a startup company (I usually work for household names) and while it would involve a rate of pay less than I usually aim for, the potential to get good experience and work on something serious is really great there.

Anyone else had a similar situation? Any advice on what I should be doing to ensure it is the right decision?

Cheers

Startups obviously risky. Usually involve long hours and lots of stress. Are you getting shares in lieu of cash? Read the shareholders agreement. Make sure you get share certs/evidence. It can be a good idea to plan your exit otherwise you could be too many years down the line, still on poor money and with stress.

As mentioned; it's about your attitude to risk. Can you afford to have a go with a startup? Have you looked at their business plan thoroughly and made a judgement? Have you spoken with the Director/s about how they aim to support you if things turn out well in recompense for you supporting them now? Are you naturally innovative and entrepreneurial or the opposite?

Good luck!
