Doncaster to Aberstwyth (wales) then back to Doncaster

Hi

Going to Aberstwyth from Doncaster next weekend for a few days camping.
On the way there thinking of going the boring way via the M1 then cut across to Stevenage and then down the A470 and A44 (which I am told are good roads) as I have a time restraint.

However on the day we leave to go back to Doncaster I have got almost a full day to explore and I don't like going back the same way I came.
I used to go to visit family near Snowdonia when I was younger so was thinking of taking a detour http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/9.gif ...

So far looked at the following:

Aberstwyth to Dogellan on the A487
Dolgellan to Llanfrothen on the A470
Llanfrothen to Garreg on the B4470
Garreg to Beddgelert on the A4085
Beddgelert to Brynrefail via the A498, Pen - Y - Pass, A4086
Onto the A4244
Then A55
Then A494
Then M56
Under Manchester
Onto Woodhead Pass back to sunny Donny OR via snake pass and Sheffield.


What do you think.....is there any other routes that I could take?

Car is a E46 320TD Compact with a remap so nowt too special but it does like bends and nice scenery.

Driven a couple of times to New Quay in Wales, Think this was the route we went....

One year we came back through Buxton, Sheffield, Doncaster

I was looking at going via Uttoxeter and Stafford instead of the M6 Toll and I have recently found that when my friends Aunt said the campsite was "near Aberystwyth" what she should have said was the campsite is in Llandysul which looking on the map was kinda like saying that Doncaster is near Sheffield lol.
