Just done the oil filter, air filter, fuel filter etc.

Had to take the battery out to get to the air filter.

And who the Hell thought it would be a good idea to hide the oil filter behind the turbo? Had to take the exhaust heat shield off to get to it. And even then it was incredibly awkward.

Am I getting soft in my old age, or are the 2.4 JTDs a bh to work on?

The 2.4 is a bh and it spanked you.

I didn't have to take the battery out to get to the air filter... just pop out the relays, unbolt the relay bracket at the left end and rotate it up and out of the way a bit, that's all you need to do.

Similar with oil filter, you don't need to remove anything, but it is a ridiculous place to put it and you will end up with oil everywhere. Mixed with blood.

I considered taking out the relays, but decided that it was easier just to whip out the battery. I might try it your way next time.

But I simply couldn't get to the oil filter with the exhaust heat shield in the way. And even after I had removed it, there was still barely enough room to reach it.

And yes, there was oil and blood everywhere by the time I had finished.

The fuel filter was a doddle, even if it had a stupid bloody sensor screwed into it's arse.

But it is still a great car.

I got to the oil filter from underneath, but I have no under tray which makes it quicker.

When I read the title of this thread I had a chuckle to myself as I new what I was about to read....

After a while you get used to it, I try to think.... Its a big long package to fit in there (5 cylinder, 6 speed box) so I try to except the daft locations of the 'service items'

The V6 is crap for maintenance access as well.

Unless you remove a number of retaining clips and carefully bend air-con pipes out of the way, you can't get a socket on the sump drain plug, or remove the oil filter from the engine bay. That's assuming you have thin enough hands to get on the thing in the first place.

The air filter is buried in a big plastic dustbin down behind the nearside headlamp and requires removal of the intake plumbing and if you want any knuckles left, the battery too.

Don't get me started on the rivers of woe that await any unfortunate soul who has to remove the gearbox for any reason. biggrin

I still have my old 156 V6.

You can use a short oil filter, which makes life far easier. I never had any trouble doing the filter on the V6.

The air filter is exactly the same element as the 2.4 JTD and is similarly awkward to get at.

The JTD oil filter is just plain daft. I haven't had so much fun since I replaced the radiator on an Esprit.

Yep.

There is a thread running here.

Progress is going to be slow, but the car is completely stripped and I am just waiting for my new chassis to be finished.

The 20v oil filter is harder than the 10v, you've got to take the pre-cat off the turbo to get to that one!

Mine is a 20v.

I had to take the exhaust heat shield off, but didn't disturb the pre-cat.

Not a pleasant job.

Probably the most awkward oil filter that I've ever changed.

Same person who designed it so the engine has to come out to change the oil temp sensor and half the interior to change the handbrake cables.

I was goin say I don't remember the 10v JTD I had at one point being too dificult to work on...

As for the V6's, suprisingly, the oil filter is easier to change on the CF3's. The CF2's a a bit of a pain as you invariably end up with oil dribbling down your arm and all over the floor as you try to extract the filter.
