Great event once again. It probably isn't enough of a car show if I was to be critical but the whole event is geared around it being a Festival of cars, aircraft, music, beer and food. Chris Evans is a really great entertainer and the crowds on Saturday seemed to enjoy the whole experience with the concert and fireworks being packed until it started (inevitably!!) raining. As a pure car show alone (against Goodwood etc), it isn't worth the entrance fee but when you take everything into account, I'll be going again.

Thinking of taking my 2year old daughter to the Southern Carfest later this month. Just a little worried that everyone will be drunk and it wouldn't realy be the place for a buggy/kid?
Anyone got any thoughts?
From what has been said I got the impression it was a great family day out.Anyone got any thoughts?

went friday entrance opened at 12am to me thats 1/2 the day over to start with, as for cars hardly any car clubs attended couldn't get access to the pit areas p155 poor for the money, should have been called family day out fest,
wont bother again, lovely hot day though !
I went today and have to agree. Won't be going again.wont bother again, lovely hot day though !
I went on Saturday and on balance had a really good day.
The Paddock WAS open, contrary to some other comments, but it wasn't open all day for obvious reasons. The music was pretty good, the cars on display, for me at least were top drawer, the food on offer was mazing, albeit extortionate (par for the course at any festival now-a-days). the stalls and other entertainment on offer was pretty good too. Great family day all in all.
Having said all of that, the people who had weekend tickets must feel mugged this morning. The cost of the tickets (in excess of £200/per person I believe), plus the 'spends' must have added up to a very expensive weekend.....There simply isn't enough there to fill three days IMHO.
I would probably consider going again, but maybe not next year.

Went on Saturday, I thought that it was a pretty good day to be honest, plenty to do for our kids, missus made one in for it too. Hotdogs were amazing, and so they should have been too at £43 for 4 lol
I saw plenty of Owners Clubs cars, not sure where some of the comments about no owners clubs are coming from? Funniest was the Metro owners club, god bless them!! My little lad only just finished watching Back To The Future the other day, so his favourite car of the day was, naturally, the 'Time Machine' - there were 5 or 6 DeLoreans lined up just waiting for him
The Paddock was great, some amazing machinery there - we just wandered on over once the 7's had finished going round the track - I didn't expect it to be open but hey, it was a big plus point getting the kids so close to the cars.
Wouldn't have liked to have spent 3 days there, but as a day out, it was pretty good (and sunny, which added a star to my 4/5 rating).
The Vulcan bomber was another thing altogether...

My kids are not as young (10 and 8 this year) but we enjoyed it so much we are staying the whole weekend this year. Anyone got any thoughts?
I wouldnt have hesitated taking them as 2yrs olds though, plenty to do.

£230 for a family ticket. My wallet took a right raping as we ate out most of the time ( reckon £30/meal for three) but overall a good weekend. The quiet camping was, however, a fair hike if the track was in use. Paddock was open as mentioned at certain times (or, like us, just stroll in when their not looking....). Mrs was happy as she met that pie making scouser off the telly. The Paddock WAS open, contrary to some other comments, but it wasn't open all day for obvious reasons. I went everyday, though had other things booked in on the evening so didn't camp. All in all I thought it was a fantastic event. If it's just cars you want, however, then it probably isn't for you. Go to Festival of Speed instead.
I took my young (2 and 4 months) children friday and they loved it, loads for them to do.
Took brother in law on saturday and thought it might be a bit too expensive, but when you add up all the things you can see, do, cars, music, food, then £60 seems ok when 1) its for charity and 2) if you went to a gig how much is a ticket? £40-£80 depending who it is...
Access to the pits was slightly annoying, my car was on display and at first you could go in them with my wristband, but (I was told) that the marshalls had the say to stop people as they were worried about people getting in the way.
Food was a bit more expensive than your average event, but then at least it was all good food, not water burgers only just cooked.
Chris is a top guy though, was about all weekend and always up for a chat in his hectic schedule

We went on the Saturday (me, wife, 5 yr old daughter, 1 yr old daughter).
It is VERY family friendly so no worries for anyone thinking about that.
We had, overall, a very nice day out. It was a birthday gift from my wife but I did see that the tickets were about £65 each (free for kids 5 and under).
However, I have one properly negative comment: the food outlets.
This was and is supposed to be a Children in Need fund raising event that just so happens to have cars/racing/planes/diggers/music etc as the theme rather than something else.
The prices of the food and drink was properly scandalous. I wouldn't have minded one bit paying £19 for 2 coffees and 2 bacon rolls (neither particularly good) if it was clear that X% was going to Children in Need. I assume that it wasn't as there was nothing suggesting it was.
I knew it would be a wallet bashing day so I took £300 along in cash expecting to get 'done over' buy Pudsey Bear and his crew to raise cash. In actual fact there was next to no fund raising at all (apart from the tickets I suppose) - I arrived home later that day with £200 left.
I think next year they should focus more on the charity side of it.
Don't mean to be too negative, just seems silly to waste such a great opportunity to raise cash and have fun at the same time. I just left with a bad taste in my mouth as the majority of the stalls were just there to make fast cash.
