Finished LEL2013 - http://www.londonedinburghlondon.com/

Lowlights.

Getting knocked off by a 4x4 with 10 days to go, which wrote off my madone and left me on co-codamol and naroprex, with ruined feet, Achilles, hamstrings, and neck (hit it between 40-60kph, but feet didn't unclip, and broke the pedals and tore the shoe leather being yanked out).

Getting into grupettos with people who didn't speak english on long, flat bits (boring).

Riding for several hundred km at a time in downpours, on several stretches.

Skin coming off pressure sore on my arse at 700km, and being told "stand a lot, and don't get it wet - that'll become an abscess and you'll need anti-biotics" at 700km.

Being woken at a control after half an hour because the controller could read his writing.

Being woken after an hour because the controller got confused.

pressure sore sticking to lycra, then unsticking every time I stood.

Seeing people getting full english, and the hot veggie breakfast being left over spicy pasta.

Highlights

Dihydro-codeine

Nytol

Sudocrem & Conotrane

Amazing company

Fart and poo jokes to distract you from the pain

flat bits behind a tandem at 50kph.

downhill bits behind a tandem at 85kph

amazing rainbow over Yad Moss

Not being taken out by a deer that jumped in front of the tandem at 50kph, but went straight in front of a car coming the other way, but didn't splatter us with entrails.

The kindness of volunteers

Being cheered in like heros.

Raising £2000 for Neuroblastoma UK and MPS Society

TL:DR

Mega event - runs again in 2017 - will be hard to pass up. 1000 places sold out in 8hrs this time. Will be even worse next. Be ready!

Not up yet, but I rode with Gadget and Jordan from CC Hackney, who were superb company. I'm sure they'll give an advanced heads up when time comes if you are a CC Hackney member (lots of them on the ride - good lads).

Saw some of you struggling into that headwind coming back from Spalding on Thursday as I sailed the other way. No wonder you all looked knackered clap

That is a mega effort!

I was in two minds about going out on the mountain bike because it looks like there's a good chance it's going to p*ss it down while I'm out, you've well and truely inspired to MTFU and get on with it!

Well done that man!

Cheers all. Has ruined me for a bit - pressure sores on my arse - think peeled grapes - do I need to say more? Hydrocolloid dressings doing wonders, but will be off the bike for a while, I suspect.

Achilles not a whole lot of fun either - never had the pain spread up into my calf before.

The rest of me is responding well to treatment plan of Duvel and ice cream. Suspect I'm going to have to work to get back to BMI 19.1 when I do get back on a bike.

Missus is currently saying rude things to me when I suggest that I *must* do Paris-Brest-Paris 1200km when it next runs in 2015.
