Thinking of buying my Missus ( yeah like I control the cash ) a Fabia to replace her battered old Metro. Anyone got one or have heard good or bad reports from people you know ?

Cheers

A friend has two (one each for him and the missus) and loves them. I wouldn't have him down as much of a petrolhead though.

Seems to me its a cost effective way of getting hold of an Audi/VW/Seat if you're not too worried about interior trim levels.

Oh, and you can't be a badge snob either .

Yeah I drive one of the older ones. Built after the VW takeover but before the current restyle.

The one I drive handles like a pig and is too slow by half (maybe thats just me....) but it is totally bomb proof. In 5 years of hard thrashing from cold and loadsa mistreatment at the hands of 2 teengers (my brother and I) it has refused to break. And this is despite our best efforts. It is also very economical even thrashing the fuel injection refuses to let you have less than 37mpg. Not too shabby I think you'll agree.

Maybe they've even sorted out the handling now. But hey never mind about handling, it's not like you have to drive it.....
Plus its built like a

Just heard the bad news that mother has backed my car into the gate post. The quote from Bamfords : £500! The back light cluster alone is nearly £100. Oh well there goes what little no claims I had left.

(driving 205 auto at the moment due to illness)

Yes, I forgot to mention it was a Fabia! It is the 2nd one I have owned and I don't think you will find a better car for £10K. Have you read Ted's report.

I've just bought a brand new diesel Fabia estate for use as a taxi. It replaces my BMW 318i touring auto. You just cannot go wrong! I've got 2 years unlimited mileage warranty, 3 years AA cover, air con, remote locking, electric windows, computer etc etc....52 mpg in town,68 on the motorway, and VW build quality. All for £9855 on the road! Now I'm going to sell the BM and replace it with an E30 M3.
