Hi,

Not sure if this counts as a LFW post. Also, I realise PH is more of a car forum than aviation but if you don't ask, you'll never know! (I see a couple of posts regarding EASA engineers so...)

So anyway, I'm a software developer (recent experience is mostly Java although familiar with other languages) for a media company. But at the moment I'd be very interested in trying to move more into either the travel or aviation sector. But probably still IT because that's where my experience is.

However...
Travel
While there are certainly some openings here & there for Java developers - aside from the large companies, most of the work seems to be outsourced & it's not exactly easy to tell who's providing services to some of the small-mid-sized companies. Also, the majority of adverts seem rather keen on GDS experience such as Amadeus or Galileo which I don't have.

Aviation
To be somewhat honest, I've had very very little luck in finding any companies hiring software developers in this sector. It appears to be mostly Part 66 EASA engineers and so on as opposed to software development and what software development there tends to be seems to be mostly embedded stuff for which you need EASA certification as well.

Also, for both areas it can be tricky to find out name of companies to explore because so many companies are B2B and don't always advertise in the general IT industry from what I can see.

Tips or advice on trying to get into these areas would be gratefully welcomed!
